Green Valley Aromatherapy
Greetings!

Barb GreenwoodHola Aroma Amigos,

I am just back from sunny Mexico where we had a lovely time. I must say it was quite a shock to my system deplaning into snow and sub-zero temperatures! It makes me wonder if we shouldn't have gone through a chamber like deep sea divers do,  to prevent "the bends".

You probably realised I was away with the "Cats Away " free shipping offer. I do not mind being compared to a cat. I love my cats, although at the moment the love is not being reciprocated as they are giving me the cold shoulder treatment for leaving them. Silkie, the 17 year old Siamese, has done his business three times now on the ceramic stove top. He is going outside but is trying, it seems, to make a statement. Monty, our poly dactyl, was a little hesitant coming to me at first, but soon forgot his shyness so we are back to two cats on the bed again.

Anyway we had a wonderful time in Mexico. I took my holiday essential oils with me. I seem to use them more when I am away but it still amazes me how many people have not heard of essential oil! If you say "aromatherapy" they may have heard of that but have no idea that aromatherapy is the use of essential oil. There was a lady sitting near us on the beach and she got a bite on the back of her hand. From the bite mark you could see a faint red mark going up her arm. Everyone was offering their suggestions: what to do, where to go, what to use, etc, so I asked her if she would like some Lavender essential oil which I had with me. I explained how it could help, but no, she preferred to wait while someone found a shop that sold vinegar because she had never heard of essential oils.

"So this is Christmas" as the song says, time to get focused on the cards, presents, etc, and time to get into the Christmas Spirit (not the alcohol, the mood). My husband has been asked to play Santa Claus at the Cumberland Lodge (a local seniors centre). That should be interesting - maybe our grandchildren can be his elves.

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Aromatically yours,

Barb

Jolly Holiday Essential Oil Blend

Jolly Holiday
Jolly Holiday

Jolly Holiday is a fragrant blend of amyris essential oil, cinnamon essential oil, cedarwood essential oil and mandarin essential oil. Diffuse this blend in your home to create a warm and festive winter holiday atmosphere. This blend can also be used to scent your homemade Christmas ornaments or your own potpourri. The general mood of this oil is uplifting, relaxing, spicy and fun.

Amyris essential oil is a base note and used to be known as the poor man's Sandalwood or West Indian Sandalwood due to its similarity to Sandalwood Mysore. This oil is known for its sedative effect and as a excellent stress reliever.

Cedarwood
essential oil is a base note and a relaxing oil but also a tonic, it helps to eliminate lactic acid and move toxins from the joints, it has a balancing energy and is thought to promote spirituality.

Cinnamon essential oil is a middle note and has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-clotting properties, it is known for helping with memory loss and nervous tension. Research at the Wheeling Jesuit University in the United States has proven that the aroma from Cinnamon has the ability to boost brain activity.   Cinnamon is also thought to be a natural antiviral and antiseptic, so while its smelling so great it may also be destroying airborne viruses and bacteria, keeping your home healthier through the holidays!

Mandarin essential oil, a top note and very uplifting, is best known as a children's oil, used in Europe in classrooms where its familiar aroma helps children to relax, focus and stay alert. In the US it is also known as Tangerine.

Christmas Gift Ideas
Christmas giftChristmas is coming and everyone is getting into a flap about what gifts to buy for whom and how much to spend: the result is stress! Now, you have to sit back and ask yourself, "is it worth it?" when so often the gifts we put so much time and energy into selecting end up being unwanted. Making your own gifts adds a more personal touch, especially if they are usable items such as soaps, bath products, cosmetics and cleaning items. The only problem you may have is when people start asking to buy your wonderful products from you because they like it so much! Seriously though, we all seem to have someone we would like to buy a gift for but they already have everything they could possibly need. We're sure they would enjoy a pretty basket with your handmade products in.

Massage Oils are always a popular gift item.

Fill a massage bottle half way with your chosen carrier oil. Add your chosen essential oils in the amount suggested (see below) and then fill up with more carrier oil. Put the lid on and shake gently.

It takes approx 25 mls of massage oil to do a full body massage. In order to know how much essential oil to use, you need to know how much the bottle holds. You then add 1 drop of essential oil to every 2 mls of carrier oil. For example, to 100 mls of carrier oil, add 50 drops of essential oil. The 50 drops can be a single essential oil or a blend of several essential oils but it must not exceed 50 drops in total. Once you have your blend in your bottle, all you need to do is tie a nice ribbon around the neck with a tag and an appropriate message.

Suggested Massage Blend for a Female
In a 60 ml bottle of carrier oil add 12 drops of Bergamot essential oil, 10 drops of Lavender essential oil and 8 drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil, total 30 drops of essential oil.

Suggested Massage Blend for a Male
To a 60 ml bottle of carrier oil add 12 drops of Mandarin essential oil, 10 drops of Vetivert essential oil, and 8 drops of Cinnamon essential oil, total 30 drops essential oil.

Bath salts - everyone likes a nice jar of bath salts, so easy to use and a great benefit to the skin.

Put 1 cup of Epsom salts, 1/2 cup of sea salts and 1/2 a cup of baking soda into a plastic bag, add 10 drops of essential oil and shake (you may have to press out any little lumps). Divide the contents into glass containers (the aroma lasts longer in glass} and tie some ribbon around.

Bath Bombs
2 cups of baking soda
1 cup of citric acid
Witch Hazel in a spray bottle

Blend together citric acid and baking soda. Add 20 drops of your chosen essential oil. Start spraying the Witch Hazel while stirring with your other hand. As soon as the mixture starts sticking together add it to molds or just roll it in your hands to make a round ball. Let dry and wrap in cellophane.
