| Greetings! |

Hello Aroma Friends,
Christmas greetings
to all our Aroma friends and may peace be your gift at Christmas and your
blessing all year through.
2009 has been an
interesting year for me and for Green Valley. It is also interesting how December
seems to compel you to look back on the year and also look forward with
anticipation to the New Year.
One needs to keep an
open mind and make choices around "old versus new". I love some of the
old movies and watch them over and over, but I also like some of the new ones. When I was a young girl living in England there was a tradition on New Years Eve where groups of people, called
mummers, would to come to your home to sweep out the old year and bring in the
new. They would dress in old clothes and blacken their faces. They then set to work
with their brushes - they never spoke, just hummed through the entire
process.
Christmas is the only season I know that blends the old with the new. The traditions of carol
singing, nativity plays, candlelight services and Santa Claus are the old ones and the new ones include all
the new gifts, cameras, computers, the wii and others. Where health is concerned, I will be having surgery in the New Year to remove
cataracts from my eyes. To my knowledge they is no essential oil to help with this! I will still use my essential oils to boost my immune system, hydrate my dry skin, help with
my emotional balance during the hectic Christmas season, and to deal with general
aches and pains. I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year. P.S. I would love to hear your feedback about our newsletter, our company or aromatherapy in general. Please drop me a line at greenvalley@57aromas.com.
Aromatically yours,
Barb Greenwood

Essential Oil Profile - Chamomile
|
|
Chamomile, German is an herb that is steam distilled to produce an oil with a
beautiful blue color (due to the high levels of azulene). Some of its countries
of origin are England, Germany, South America and France.
German Chamomile has wonderful anti-inflammatory and soothing properties
making this oil an excellent one for all manner of skincare. It is helpful in
treating acne, dermatitis, and eczema as well as inflamed and sensitive skin. It
is mainly composed of chamazulene (produced during the steam distillation
process, not present in the fresh plant) and farnesene.
For internal inflammation, Chamomile is useful for arthritis and inflamed
joints as well as inflamed conditions of the digestive tract (colitis, gastritis
and diarrhea) due to the fact that tension and anxiety are often the cause of
these conditions and Chamomile is very calming on an emotional level. It has
also been used in the treatment of depression.
Chamomile, being one of the gentlest oils, is well known for being a suitable
oil for treating children with. Earaches can be relieved by massaging around the
ear with a carrier oil, such as sweet almond
oil, infused with Chamomile. Of course, two drops of Chamomile essential oil
in the bath can take the "edge" off a cranky, irritable child before bedtime,
making life happier for all parties concerned. |

New Hydrosols
|
We have recently had the opportunity to purchase some wild-crafted, locally distilled hydrosols.
Coriander
Hydrosol
There is evidence
that coriander was being used a thousand years before Christ. The seeds were
found in Tutanchamun's tomb and it is unclear whether they were there for aphrodisiac properties or food flavouring. Coriander hydrosol is helpful for gas, bloating, constipation and most
tummy upsets. It is also said that Coriander is
good at ridding the body of heavy metals.
Fir Hydrosol
Fir hydrosol is
best known for and effective with depressive disorders especially SAD
syndrome.
Fir hydrosol is also
a good pick me up for limp hair (use it as a stay-in rinse) and tired feet (soak them in this uplifting hydrosol).
Anise and
Hyssop Hydrosol
Aniseed hydrosol (pimpinella
anisum), is used to calm digestive problems. It is often used for its
flavouring abilities, like marinating meat or vegetables in a little hydrosol, or adding to salad
dressing. Hyssop (Hyssopus
officinalis), is a great hydrosol to use with hot and cold
compresses to reduce bruising. Hot compresses are also wonderful for arthritis.
Together these
hydrosols have a calming effect on people who are feeling overwhelmed. Add it to
your bath water or soak a small towel in it, warm it and place the towel around your neck and
shoulders. Relax and breath deep.

Did you know?
|
In a 1992 study published in the medical journal Laryngoscope, researchers "measured bacteria levels found on 20 audio headsets of
the type provided on commercial airline flights. At the beginning of the
experiment, the typical headset had 60 microorganisms on its surface; after an
hour's use of the headphones by a volunteer, that number went up to 650 -
roughly 11...times more." The authors say it is likely
that the heat and humidity created in the user's ears cause "resident organisms
from the deeper skin layers and the sweat and sebaceous glands" to congregate
out in the open. We recommend wiping your headphones with Green it Clean before putting them in or on your ears to prevent ear infections. |
