We sometimes tend to dwell on the mystical and mysterious side of the martial arts we practice. We talk with our dojo brothers and sisters about "that time when it looked like he was just standing there, but all of a sudden..." And I have seen some pretty amazing things myself. But what may first appear as MARTIAL MOJO, may be explained by our understanding of how martial INTENT works. MARTIAL ARTS FIGHT SCENES

I have found that writing a fight scene is one of the most difficult things I do as an author of thrillers. It is oftentimes difficult to find the words that adequately illustrate something as complex as a real-life, martial-arts fight. The scene must be believable, in order to keep my readers in a state of belief, but they cannot be too simple, either. My protagonist, Gabe Turpin, trains and teaches Daitoryu Aikijujitsu and Goju Ryu Karate. From the rich traditions of these two styles, Gabe finds the empty-handed means to dispatch the bad guys, despite they are usually armed with automatic weapons. READ FIGHT SCENES |
