Many of my readers are involved and/or interested in the martial arts.  Martial Arts are also a significant part of my characters' lives, as they are for this author. 

 

Some years ago a number of we martial artists--all from a number of different styles, systems and schools--got together to collaboratively establish a chronology...a timeline of how the martial arts evolved over the centuries.  Starting in the first century BCE, as Sumo wrestlers engaged in ceremonial combat in Japan, here is a timeline of how the Martial Arts came to be what they are today.

THE REAL BACKSTORY

 

In DREAMS OF THE N'DOROBO, Gabe Turpin becomes involved with two old Shamans who live on Mt. Kenya. 

 

The basis of that part of the storyline is found in my experience of meeting an old witch doctor in the forests of Mt. Kenya--for the first time in 1972.  I was to meet him again years later and learned of his apparently supernatural abilities.
