Dear Reader
In this issue of CURIOUS THINGS...
Through word, image and sound, I invite you on a personal journey to experience the most spiritual place I've ever been--sacred Koyasan.
Also, I explore Gabe Turpin's martial arts. I offer an explanation of why Aikido is similar to the Karate of Okinawa, despite most consider the arts to be very different.
One of the major deities in Shingon Budhism is Fudo Myo. The temples, shrines and halls of Koyasan are full of imagery and statuary of the Immovable One. Many martial artists feel the Chinese god of Tea and Commerce, Busaganashi, is the God of martial arts. For my money, it's Fudo Myo.

SACRED KOYASAN: SHARING A PERSONAL JOURNEY
A thread found throughout Gabe Turpin adventures is that of Gabe's love of Koyasan. The monastic Buddhist community in Japan is, for Turpin, a sort of spiritual touchstone.
Join me in taking a personal journey to the most spiritual place I have ever been in my entire life. TAKE THE JOURNEY |
GABE TURPIN'S MARTIAL ARTS: UNITY OF KARATE & DAITORYU

Here is a theoretical backstory of the similarities and commonalities between Okinawan Karate and the feudal, Japanese art of Daitoryu. READ MORE

In my second novel, PROPHETS REBORN, Gabe visits his old monastery home in Koyasan, Japan. There, he and his friend, the Abbot of the Kongobuji Temple, find a martial relevance of one of Shingon's thirteen deities: Fudo Myo. Fudo Myo is the quintessential martial-arts deity. READ MORE |
