Good Friday Collection

When St. Paul visited churches in Greece and Asia Minor, he always collected money to send back to the church in Jerusalem.  That practice is alive and well in the Episcopal Church.  It is traditional for us to gather a Good Friday Offering which is then send to the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem which has congregations in Jerusalem, Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.  The Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem is a vibrant Christian community throughout that troubled region where Christians are in a decided minority.

To join in the Good Friday Offering, you can give by check at the Good Friday service (or at any service through Easter.)  Make the check payable to the Church of the Annunciation but put "Good Friday Offering" on the memo line.  (We will send a single check.)  The loose offering at the Good Friday service will also be included.

Thank you,
Fr. John

"In Praise of Slowness," one-day retreat at Trinity, New Orleans, April 14, 9am-2pm

The Rev'd Charles LaFond will lead this day of teaching and reflection considering the speed of life and ways to slow down and simplify. We will consider how speed and busyness can be anesthetizing to the work of healing and the place of discernment in our work. We will examine various spiritual disciplines which can assist us with the modeling we choose to do as Christians in living balanced, centered lives.  Having slowed down a bit, how do we hear God? What are the ancient truths about listening for God and how do we make decisions once we have heard a call? This retreat gives us the opportunity to discuss such things as simplicity, balance, holy listening, decision-making skills and the nature of God's call.

To register, contact Peter Gray at [email protected] or (504) 670-2584.  A fee of $20 covers the cost of lunch and materials. Download the Flyer.

Charles LaFond is Canon for Congregational Life in the Diocese of New Hampshire.
