Psalm 91

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High *

abides under the shadow of the Almighty.

He shall say to the Lord,

"You are my refuge and my stronghold, *

my God in whom I put my trust."

He shall deliver you from the snare of the hunter *

   and from the deadly pestilence.

He shall cover you with his pinions,

and you shall find refuge under his wings; *

his faithfulness shall be a shield and buckler.

You shall not be afraid of any terror by night, *

   nor of the arrow that flies by day;

Of the plague that stalks in the darkness, *

nor of the sickness that lays waste at mid-day.

A thousand shall fall at your side

and ten thousand at your right hand, *

but it shall not come near you.

Your eyes have only to behold *

to see the reward of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord your refuge, *

and the Most High your habitation,

There shall no evil happen to you, *

neither shall any plague come near your dwelling.

For he shall give his angels charge over you, *

to keep you in all your ways.

They shall bear you in their hands, *

lest you dash your foot against a stone.

You shall tread upon the lion and adder; *

you shall trample the young lion and the serpent

under your feet.

Because he is bound to me in love,

therefore will I deliver

him; *

I will protect him, because he knows my Name.

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; *

   I am with him in trouble;

I will rescue him and bring him to honor.

With long life will I satisfy him, *

   and show him my salvation.

Episcopal Church of the
Annunciation
Annunciation stain glass
 Greetings!

I hope this finds you well while I am on vacation with my family.  Please see a couple of prayer requests below and information about the annual church Christmas party on December 9.

Cam Davis
It is with a very sad heart that I give you the latest update on Cam.  Fr. John contacted me today to say that Cam returned to the hospital last week.  Fr. John visited with him today and found Cam in a semi-conscience state and not doing well.  Cam is no longer being treated and is now receiving only palliative care for comfort.  Either tonight or tomorrow, Cam will return home for hospice care.   Pray for Cam as he prepares to return home to God.  For all of us, this is very difficult news.  Cam is a much loved member of our Annunciation family.  As I receive further information, I will email it out.  You can also contact Noel at 504-913-4509 as he is receiving regular updates as well.

Almighty God, look on this your servant, Cam, lying in great weakness, and comfort him with the promise of life everlasting, given in the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP, page 453)

Fr. George Choyce
Many of you know Fr. George Choyce.  He has presided and preached several times at Annunciation in the past when St. Timothy's Episcopal Church (Signal Mountain, TN) worked through the Annunciation Mission.  Fr. George has been suffering from seizures for the past year which recently led to his resignation as rector of St. Timothy's.  I am happy to report that today he had successful surgery on his brain to remove spots causing the seizures.  The doctor expects his full recovery from the surgery as well as his seizures.  I spoke with Anne today.  She was very upbeat and thankful.  I told her we would be praying for George, her , and their children.

O Lord, your compassions never fail and your mercies are new every morning: We give you thanks for giving our brother, George, both relief from pain and hope of health renewed. Continue in him, we pray, the good work you have begun; that he, daily increasing in bodily strength, and rejoicing in your goodness, may so order his life and conduct that he may always think and do those things that please you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Annunciation's Annual Christmas Party
The Annual Christmas Party put on by the women of the church will be Friday, December 9 at 7pm.  The party is always great fun for all.  We will again sing Christmas carols and celebrate together.  To sign up to help, please contact Maureen Young at maureency@aol.com or 504-897-3420.

The party will be at the home of Rebecca and me.  Our address is 4157 Canal Street in Mid-City.  You can park next door in the parking lot of the Allen Berger Law Firm (even the reserved spaces are available except for Mr. Berger's parking space.)

A few thoughts
Like life, this email is a mixed message of sorrow, hope, and joy.  Our good friend, Slater Armstrong, whose father was Annunciation's curate in the early 1960's, has led music at Annunciation in the past.  Slater wrote a wonderful song, Even in Sorrow, that I would like to share with you again today.  Slater has sung it many times at Annunciation.  The words are an encouragement that "even in sorrow let their be praise."  At Annunciation, we know this to be true.  Slater has been a missionary to the Sudan for many years.  The song was born out of his work with the Sudanese people.  To hear the music, go to http://www.myspace.com/slaterarmstrong.  I pray you find encouragement, as I did, in the words.

Your's in Christ,

Duane Nettles
