Concert to benefit burn survivors, fire safety education

Faith on Fire, a southern gospel concert benefiting the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. at Blackshear Place Baptist Church, 3428 Atlanta Hwy., Flowery Branch.

This event will feature great southern gospel music including The Talleys,
CS&K, and The LeFevre Quartet as well as testimonials of faith from burn survivors, family members, and firefighters who have directly benefited from the GFBF.

The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation (GFBF) is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization that serves the entire state of Georgia in its mission to partner with the fire service and burn care community to provide fire safety and prevention education, support medical facilities and assist burn survivors in their recovery. Visit www.gfbf.org for more information.

Firefighters deliver Meals on Wheels, fire safety
Hall County Fire Services coordinated with Meals on Wheels last month to deliver donated boxes of food. It was a great opportunity for the firefighters to meet residents who may one day need their help, and to give them fire prevention information. The numbers show the wonderful success of this project:

Number of homes visited: 118
Number of smoke alarms installed: 95 (in 75 homes)
Number of batteries replaced: 42
Number of carbon monoxide alarms installed: 10

Home visits are an invaluable tool for preventing fires. Station 3 found an alarm that was manufactured in 1984. It was still hanging on the wall, hardwired into the electrical system, but was hot to the touch and showed evidence of overheating. Thanks to this program, that is one less call our fire department will be responding to in the future.
