Hall pledges to reduce energy use

 

On June 26, Hall County Government announced its partnership in the Better Buildings Challenge, a Department of Energy (DOE) national leadership program calling on corporate chief executives, university presidents, state, local and school district leaders to reduce their portfolio-wide energy use by 20 percent by 2020 and showcase the solutions they use and the results they achieve. Hall County pledged to reduce energy use in 1.3 million square feet of its public facilities by 20 percent as well as work with buildings in Hall County to achieve similar savings. Read more.

Local Bar Association wins state prize

  

The Gainesville-Northeastern Bar Association was honored June 1 at the annual meeting of the State Bar of Georgia with the Award of Merit for voluntary bar associations of 101 to 250 members. The Award of Merit is presented to a voluntary bar association for its dedication to improving relations among local lawyers and devoting endless hours to serving their communities." Nicki Vaughan (pictured), Chief Assistant Public Defender for the judicial circuit that includes Hall County, has been President of the Gainesville-Northeastern Circuit Bar Association this past year. Her hard work putting together the entry packet and planning wonderful activities throughout the year helped win the trophy.

Give input on public transit changes

 

Hall Area Transit is proposing service changes to curtail expenses and better meet residents' needs. The changes would decrease operating hours, add a new route, increase fares, add options for daily and monthly passes, and increase the age limit of children who may ride for free. The public is invited to provide input on the proposal through July 23. Read more

2013 budget improves services 

 

On June 22, the Hall County Board of Commissioners adopted a balanced budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2012, and ends June 30, 2013. County offices will have only 3 furloughs, instead of the 12 days of office closings the county has seen since 2008. This change will increase the level of service to residents without raising taxes. Read more.
