WE WON!!!!
Healthcare for Heroes 2012
The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce chose Angel Flight Southeast as winner of the 2012 Healthcare for Heroes award in the Institutions/Programs category! We were up against some stiff competition with other very worthy causes.  We received the award this week at a luncheon with over 500 attendees present.

A VERY special thanks and appreciation to South Florida Wing Leader Mark Mirin. Mark applied for our nomination, created a video and photography footage, conducted the necessary interview and never lost faith that we would win!

One of our heroes passes away
Pilot and friend Jack Culley passed away this week. Our hearts go out to Jack's family and loved ones, and our appreciation goes out to Jack for the many missions Jack flew over the years. His wife Lynda wrote us this note:

May 20, 2012

Dear Friends and Family of Lynda and Jack,

At noon today Jack's journey with cancer ended and he will no longer need our earthly care, concern and attention. He died peacefully at home in St Petersburg about 3 months after the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer which had infiltrated his liver.

We have heard from so many friends that Jack was an inspiration to them in a variety of ways. I think Cindy wrote the right words a few minutes ago. "Through friendships, Sailboats Inc business, and involvement with various service organizations, Jack inspired countless people to sail faster, fly higher, play harder and pursue their passions. We all stand a little taller for having known and loved Jack."

Another very special person in our lives was writing me an email at 11:38 this morning. Ironic but touching my heart with sincerity and love.  Mikel wrote this, "Jack lived by a set of principles and shared those principles with others. Among them were the principles of honesty - being honest with one's self; open-mindedness - accepting those around us for who we are; and willingness - being willing to take responsibility for our own lives. Jack was an inspiration to many and his wisdom and guidance will be missed by all who loved him.

Jack and I have treasured all the visits, emails, cards, phone calls, thoughts and prayers you have sent us. There will be more information available on www.internationalcremation.com website in the next few days. At Jack's request, we will have a celebration of life in Duluth sometime this summer.

Please do not send me flowers as I would much rather you make a donation in Jack's name to your favorite charity.

With love to you all,

Lynda

Wing leader and friend Bill Shivers also wrote a nice note:

Our friend, and passionate Angel Flight pilot went West into the sunset Sunday,  May 20, 2012.  Only three months ago Jack was diagnosed with cancer.  The same illness that he has helped so many adults and children by flying for their own treatments.  Jack was an avid aviator for many years. In addition to his many, many Angel Flight missions he flew his Bonanza over much of the United States visiting his long time buddies.

Jack's kindness and friendship will be missed, whether it at the airport or on the golf course.  Angel Flight has lost a friend, but more importantly, a special humanitarian.

Below is a thank you to Angel Flight pilots Bill Castlen, Eric Kline, Ken Jordan and Skipper Tonsmeire for flying nine pre-teens to Camp Immokalee which provides respite for children who have a parent diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and home:

"I cannot thank you enough for all the hard work that you and your organization have done! This generosity has truly been impactful to the children that fly through Angel Flight. I spoke with Bethany from Pensacola and she wants to be a pilot when she grows up! I thank you for partnering with us! I also want to thank the pilots that use their time and resources to ensure that the children have an opportunity to attend camp!"

We need some assistance!
The summer months tend to be especially lean for fundraising, and we are hard at work trying to find creative ways to raise much needed funds in this environment.

Here are some ways you can help, if you can't write a check yourself:
  • Do you know any Foundations you can recommend to us?
  • Do you know anyone who would be willing to put our org in their will?
  • Do you work for a company that does planned giving, such as payroll deductions?
  • Want to give monthly automatically? We can handle that!
  • Want to donate a car, boat or airplane? We can handle that too!
Any leads are greatly appreciated! Please call the office at (352) 326-0761 x1500
