Angel Flight Charity Golf Classic Call For Sponsorships!
Leesburg Golf Tourney
Supporters: If you want to help promote this event, feel free to copy-and-paste the below into you favorite social networks or email:

The St. Pete/Tampa Bay Wing are gearing up for their Charity Golf Classic to support a truly great cause - one that literally can save lives. Angel Flight believes that transportation should never be the obstacle between a patient and their treatment. Event Chairman Bill Shivers explains that Angel Flight "steps in when travel or commercial flights are either unavailable or unaffordable by offering free transportation and hope for those in need." They embody the adage "on a wing and a prayer".

Since Angel Flight depends on the generosity of volunteer pilots to provide free air transportation for both children and adults with medical or compelling humanitarian needs, this annual Golf Classic serves as the major fundraiser for the organization who currently coordinates more than 3,000 free flights per year. The Golf Classic provides a great opportunity for companies or individuals to support this important service while gaining recognition in the Tampa Bay community.

The 2012 Charity Golf Classic is scheduled for Monday, May 14 at the Feather Sound County Club in Clearwater, FL. There are multiple levels of sponsorship opportunities available for businesses and individuals.

- $1,250 Bronze includes: 1 foursome for golfers, 4 award dinner tickets, tournament program listing, and ¼ page ad in event program
- $2,000 Silver Wing includes all of the above, plus: Company name or logo on signage, hole sponsor sign, and ad is upgraded to ½ page in event program
- $3,500 Gold Wing includes all of the above, plus: Company name or logo on beverage carts, and ad is upgraded to ¾ page in event program
- $5,000 Platinum Wing includes all of the above, plus: company name or logo on signage is upgraded to headline on all signage, banner in area of helicopter ball drop, golf package is upgraded to 2 foursomes, award banquet upgraded to 8 tickets, and ad is upgraded to a full-page in the event program
- $250 Hole Sponsorships includes: Sign at hole and listing in event program

This Golf Classic offers up a full day of activities beginning with lunch, then a "Helicopter Ball Drop", followed by the Shotgun Scramble Start and ending with the Awards Banquet Dinner. It's a wonderful opportunity to help a very worthwhile organization while at the same time promoting you or your company's support while having fun on the golf course with your business associates and friends.

Kathy,

Attached is my much delayed report on MFSE Mission T100250 taking Sarah and Catherine Phillips to Leesburg.  I though you might also enjoy several pictures from our flight.

On Sunday March 4th, Joe Knight and I met the second leg Angel Flight in Winston-Salem bringing Sarah and her mother Catherine Phillips from Destin, Florida to Leesburg, Virginia.  Four other relatives were converging in Washington, DC with the Phillips for diagnosis and testing associated their common congenital disease, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS).  POTS is an autonomic nervous system malfunction (part of the vertebrate nervous system that regulates involuntary actions, such as of the intestines, heart, and glands) that causes many different symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, passing out when standing up, dangerously low blood pressure, and numerous other similar problems.  Sarah's aunt and other relatives have died at rather young ages from complications associated with POTS.  The family's hope is that new research and study of their family set can aid in understanding and treating this inherited disease.  Both Sarah and Catherine suffer from POTS.

Joe and I learned that Sarah, a budding singer has had to limit her post high school music studies because of her disease.  Likewise, Catherine is disabled by the disorder.  Our flight to Leesburg from Winston-Salem was nice, though a bit bumpy.  In spite of the light turbulence, Sarah and Catherine both said it wasn't as bad as the first two legs and indeed the rough ride got better the further northeast we traveled.  Both ladies indicated that they were firm in their belief in our Savior and were appreciative that we would be praying for them.

Joe Knight has recently gotten his instrument flight certification and Sunday's flight was an opportunity for him to practice and hone his skills.  He wants to become an Angel Flight pilot after building sufficient flight hours to qualify.  He has flown with me several times.

After a little less than two hours of flight, we were working a strong, gusty crosswind on final for Leesburg.  Once safely planted on the runway and taxing to the fixed base operation, we were glad to be able to have Sarah and Catherine's 1000 mile odyssey completed.  Three Angel Flights of about five and a half hours had safely transported the Phillips mom and daughter from home to hope - 17 highway hours away!

Doin' HIS thing,

Bob Oglesby

March Missions- way up!
hockey stick chart
Our missions flown for March were 68% over last year! Our call rates are up, our flights coordinated are up, and our fill-rates are up. Thank you to everyone involved from the pilots, to the volunteers on the hotline, the volunteers calling pilots when missions are in jeopardy and the donors who fund our operation 24/7. We are meeting a great need, and getting better at doing good every day.

We need some assistance!
The summer months tend to be especially lean for fundraising, and we are hard at work trying to find creative ways to raise much needed funds in this environment.

Here are some ways you can help, if you can't write a check yourself:
  • Do you know any Foundations you can recommend to us?
  • Do you know anyone who would be willing to put Angel Flight in their will?
  • Do you work for a company that does planned giving, such as payroll deductions?
Any leads are greatly appreciated! Please call the office at (352) 326-0761 x1500

Vehicle donations
Did you know Angel Flight Southeast accepts cars, boats and even airplanes for donations? A very special donor gave us his wife's old car as a donation to make sure we keep reaching out and letting people know of our services, answer the phones for emergency and non-emergency calls 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and coordinate and re-coordinate thousands of flight each year!

To donate a vehicle, just give us a call at (352) 326-0761
Gator Fly-in- We need a volunteer or two...
The annual gator fly-in is taking place at the Gainesville Airport (KGNV) on April 28th 9am-4pm. Any volunteers (pilot or non-pilot) available that day? We could use a little extra help for the day. Contact Steve at (352) 326-0761 xt 1500

Thank you Knights of Columbus - The Villages
The Villages Knights of Columbus chapter presented a check at a breakfast meeting this past Wednesday morning to continue our mission of coordinating flights for those in need.
