Angel Flight + Challenge Air = Big Fun! |

What a great day! 76 disabled kids and their families were given "empowering" rides in airplanes at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport Saturday.
The pilots really worked especially hard to make sure no kids missed out on a ride, taking as many as eight trips to complete their mission. The kids could not be more appreciative. There were clowns and cheerleaders, ponies and potbelly pigs. Great day.

A special thanks to our pilots: Greg Banfield John Toohey Allan Weltman Michael Bercun Rick Marshall Evan Piper Jim Meyer (Flew down from Illinois!) Mark Riordan Tom Ellis Troy Mark Nowicki Stephen Gatlin Feedback from one of our dedicated pilots: Steve, Hats off to you, what a great event Saturday. The pilot briefings were perfect and material was a great asset to have in the cockpit. All I can say is what a difference a year makes. Your planning with the airport FAA folks, support from Banyan, and my ground crew, made the flight work a snap. I had a blast with my eight flights, the kids really made my day special, each one was great as were their famillies, even had two of the same families from last year, which was very cool. Count me in for next year, I am sure I got more out of flying with the kids and their families then I gave back on the short flights. Again, thanks for a really great day. Greg B. This was addressed to me, but everyone was a huge help in getting this event off the ground, particularly Jim Steenson and the staff and volunteers of Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, Banyan Air Service & Challenge Air. Sincerely, Steve Purello

NATCA Conference |
The National Air Traffic Controller's Association convention took place this past week in Atlanta, Georgia. The NATCA Charitable Foundation has been very good to Angel Flight Southeast over they years, holding fundraising events and sending our charity a portion of the proceeds.
Angel Flight Southeast was honored to be a part of the convention, judging the highly coveted award for the "Best Bike" in the Air Traffic Controller's bike building contest (I'm still not really clear on who actually won?).
We also attended with a booth which gave us an opportunity to speak with controllers across the country, signing up new controller/pilots and happily accepting a very nice check, which came from the proceeds of a great fundraiser held at the Westin Hotel in Atlanta on Monday night.
Special thanks to:
Elena Nash
Betsy Beaumont
Cathy Meachum
We look forward to a long and strong relationship with NATCA charitable, and appreciate everything they have done for us.
