8 Minutes to save a life! |
This morning at 7:08 am, the call came through.
The mother of an an 8 year-old girl, waiting four months in Jacksonville for a new liver, was told one had just become available.
Our team sprang into action and one of hero pilots, Andy Hoheimer, accepted the mission by 7:16am!
Andy filed the flight plan under the "Lifeguard" moniker to get special treatment by the air traffic controllers and flew his Beechcraft Baron to Miami where a taxi was waiting for this special passenger to take her to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Our prayers go out to the family that all goes well with the operation!

Front page article this week: Angel Flight transports Villager to VA program for sight-impaired veterans |
Posted: Sunday, December 11, 2011 8:00 am
By Jessica Greene, Daily Sun
THE VILLAGES - Thanks to Angel Flight and a special VA program, Village of Del Mar resident and World War II veteran Dick Egan touched a passion and celebrated two milestones this past Tuesday.
Just after 4 p.m. he stepped out of Steve Purello's Cessna Skyline and was welcomed by a group of friends and family, as well as his dog Max. Egan's adventure actually started five weeks earlier when he was flown free of charge to the West Palm Beach Veterans Affairs Medical Center. During his stay there, Egan participated in the facility's blind rehabilitation program.

Dick Egan, of the Village of Del Mar, walks toward his friends and family Tuesday after getting off an Angel Flight Southeast plane. The organization picked Egan up from the VA Blind Rehabilitation Center in West Palm Beach and flew him back to Leesburg Municipal Airport

Angel Flight/Challenge Air |
We have begun planning for our fly-kids event in January, partnering with Challenge Air. Jim Steenson, a retired Air Traffic Controller and volunteer mission coordinator has volunteered to be the Air Boss for the event, and I will be the Chief Pilot. Thanks Jim!
This is a crazy, but fun day. We are looking for pilots to take kids and their families on a 15-minute flight, exposing them to aviation and empowering them by hopefully taking the controls of the aircraft, even though they may have a disability that keeps them from having a normal life on the ground. I have done a number of these as a pilot, and just like doing Angel Flight missions, it is very rewarding!
Please let us know if you can volunteer. We will have a morning and an afternoon shift on Saturday January 28 at the Fort Lauderdale Executive airport. Sign up at www.challengeair.org. or give me a call at (352) 326-0761 if you have any questions.
Sincerely, Steve Purello Angel Flight Southeast
