Hurricane Irene impact on US/Bahamas
U.S.
While bad, it appears the impact on the US is not nearly as bad as it could have been. Mercy Flight Southeast is standing by to help if our sister agencies, Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic and Angel Flight Northeast need us for connecting missions, since the Southeastern U.S. region was spared.

Bahamas
Bahamas Habitat has begun flying missions to help the less fortunate in the Bahamas. Many homes have been badly damaged. Flights are departing from Banyan Air at Fort Lauderdale Executive airport (FXE). For now, first-repsonders looking to help will need to also purchase supplies themselves, since the Bahamas Habitat has not been able to build stockpiles of needed items yet. Once they do, we will help by posting missions to fly supplies within the U.S. and to the Bahamas.

Supplies needed

  • Tarps for roofs + rope
  • 5 gal buckets (clean, preferably)
  • Food (no prep: fruit cups, poptops, etc.)
  • Candles + matches
  • Flashlights + batteries
  • Generators with extension cords/outlets
  • Linens and towels
  • Roofing nails, felt, shingles, tools

If you'd like to both purchase and/or fly the supplies, you can get more info here
