Tips for Organizing Your Filing System for Maximum Productivity.

Do you have a system for filing?

• If you have a lot of filing to do - try doing it first thing in the morning, every morning.
• If you have very little - set a specific day each month to do your filing.
• If you are like me and have an average amount of filing - pick one day each week and stick to it. I do mine every Friday morning.

Are the important papers you access regularly within reach?

• The papers I need to access more than once a week are in folders right on my desk.
• All other current papers are in a file cabinet in my office, which means they are right at my fingertips whenever I need them.

Do you keep old tax files and other important papers in a safe, but out of the way, area?

• Tax files are in a lower drawer of my filing cabinet.
• All my records from last year are also in a lower drawer of my filing cabinet.
• Older files get packed away in filing boxes and put in storage.
