Using a Home Inspector before-during-after your Home Renovations
|
I feel it is very important to inspect your home prior to embarking on a major renovation. It is very helpful to know and understand the possible issues you might have with the major components of your home such as the roof, heating, electrical and plumbing before you spend your entire budget on your new kitchen and bathroom. The last thing you want is to have a leaky roof rain down on your new kitchen!!
Click here to read more on electrical and permits. As well a link to 13 Questions to ask your contractor before you hire them. It is also important to ensure all of the work has been completed to your satisfaction and the Scope of Work has been met prior to paying the final bill. Your certified home inspector can assist you with this process to ensure all work has been completed properly. I recently performed an inspection on a 13 year old house and found some issues on the roof that had been there since the house was built... check out what the contractor left 13 years ago!

| Quick Tip: Turn off the BBQ gas |
Have you ever left for a holiday and asked, "Did I leave the iron on?" Well it's bbq season so how about asking yourself before you leave. "Did I turn off the bbq gas?"
A tank left on high will burn out over night but a natural gas hook up will keep going... I have heard stories of those who have left their BBQ natural gas on during their holidays and were lucky not have found their house burned down upon their return. Turn off the gas at the valve, not just the bbq switches.

Pre-Renovation Inspection
|
It is always best to go into a renovation with as much knowledge about your home as possible. If you are considering renovating your home you should consider having a Pre-Renovation Inspection conducted on your home. During an inspection the inspector will be able to inform you about the condition of the critical components of your home so that you can better allocate your renovation budget. If you have $40,000.00 to put into renovations and have spent it all on that "DREAM KITCHEN", then find out your existing electrical will need upgrading this could put some stress on your budget. Hansen Home Inspections Ltd. is a licensed professional home inspection firm in North Vancouver, BC. We serve buyers, sellers and those maintaining their homes in the North Shore and Metro Vancouver areas. If you would like to discuss our services please do not hesitate to contact me at your convenience.
