Compliance Tip

Notify CRA Immediately in the Event of the Following:

Change of Company Information or Ownership

In the event of a change of location/address of the business your credit reporting agency should be notified immediately.

In the event that the name of the company changes, your credit reporting agency should be notified immediately.

If the nature of your business should change, or if you should add services for which you pull credit that were not initially listed on your application for service with your credit reporting agency, you must report this change in "permissible purpose" right away.   As an example, the permissible purpose stated on your application for service was "processing of mortgage loans" and the company adds property management to their portfolio of services.  It is imperative that you notify your CRA of the additional purpose (tenant screening) for accessing credit reports.

Advance notice of these changes will allow your CRA to perform any necessary credentialing procedures within allowable time frames to prevent an interruption of service.

Breach of Security

Any event that involves a breach of security involving consumer reporting data, or where it is reasonably believed that such data has been acquired by an unauthorized person, must be reported within 24 hours of the discovery of the breach to all CRA vendors.  A breach would include (but not limited to) loss or theft of laptop computers or other computer hardware, software or other devises that contain or are used to access confidential consumer credit information; loss, theft or unauthorized access to any hard copy or electronic copies of identifying confidential consumer credit information; unauthorized access to End User networks or systems either by persons or via virus, spyware, Trojan horse or other types of electronic intrusion.

It is required that End User actively cooperate with and participate in any investigation by CRA or its credit vendors, including but not limited to Equifax, Experian and Trans Union, or local and/or federal authorities.
