Compliance Tip

Are Your Emails Secure?

The mortgage industry handles sensitive information that needs to be passed along for verification purposes, etc., and most of the time it is being passed via email.  Because we all handle this sensitive data, it is our obligation to protect this information.  Some of the ways you can increase the overall security of an email are:

  1. Use WinZip with password protection.  Be sure to send the password to the document in a separate email.
  2. Never include a social security number, date of birth, etc. in the body of an email or in an attachment of an email.

Overall, we encourage you to take this opportunity to review how you are using email  to exchange information throughout your business unit.
