A Word From Our President
In a 5-4 vote on June 28, the Supreme Court of the United States upheld the controversial Individual Mandate provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) also referred to as ObamaCare. The implications for hospitals and other healthcare providers are significant and will forever change our healthcare landscape. There is no doubt that this very confusing legislation will be modified and improved upon, but this milestone decision does in fact solidify the path for significant change. Regardless of the changes we face, Carson Health remains committed to providing high quality and accessible care and to deliver on our promise of creating exceptional experiences. The Leadership team is more committed than ever to our Mission and to stay on top of pending national reform initiatives. This organization's strategic planning efforts can now take a more definitive position as we prepare for insurance exchanges, Medicaid expansion, new payment models, Accountable Care Organizations, clinical integration and coordinated care across multiple organizations. We will successfully meet these complex regulatory challenges and continue to provide the compassionate healthcare services you have come to expect from the professionals at Carson Health. |

Carson Health is Walking to London
There are more than 100 associates who are participating in a walking club organized by Carson Health. The rules for the club: just walk! All participants were given pedometers to track their steps and report them each week. The goal is to see how many times we can walk from Carson City to London and back for the Olympics.
Carson Health has taken several initiatives in the past year to enhance our wellness program, including established an on-site clinic through LivingWell. "The Walking Club reinforces that we all need to take an active role in our health" said Kristen Litwiller, Benefits Coordinator for Carson Health. |

Water Safety
With the scorching heat we have had, please take a moment to remember these few water safety tips as we take our families to the local pool and lake to cool off.
1. "Buddy up." Always swim with a partner.
2. Don't use a flotation device as a substitute for supervision. Never allow a child in a pool without an adult.
3. Don't leave toys out that would attract children to the pool area.
4. Apply sunscreen regularly when getting in and out of the water.
5. When boating, always wear a Coast Guard Approved life preserver.
6. If you don't know CPR, take a class.
7. Teach your children how to float on their backs, it could save their life.
8. When boating, teach your children if they fall to raise their ski or arm out of the water so they are more visible in the water to other boaters.
9. If you are on a river or unfamiliar lake, go slow and learn your surroundings. This goes for boating and swimming.
10. Last, but most importantly, never drink alcohol when swimming or boating.
