Cancer Survivorship

Help benefit the Cancer Survivorship Program by purchasing a sky lantern for $5 from Marcie in Human Resources at Carson City Hospital. They can be purchased in memory of a cancer patient that has passed away or in celebration of a survivor still fighting. These lanterns are available in purple or white/pink. Upon purchase, the buyer will receive a certificate for the lantern which will then be launched on Thursday, December 15, during the Lights of Love ceremony here at the hospital starting at 7 p.m. The lanterns will be available for purchase until Wednesday, December 14.

Health and Nutrition Tips

Start your day the right way! How many fruits and vegetables are on your plate each day? MyPlate, a new tool from the USDA, recommends that half the food you eat daily should be fruits and vegetables. Be sure to wash them before eating to prevent foodborne illness!

How much is too much salt? One teaspoon of salt contains about 2,300 milligrams of sodium. While our bodies require sodium, most Americans consume too much. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends less than 2,300 milligrams per day.

Does grilled food cause cancer? Based on present research findings, eating moderate amounts of grilled meats cooked without charring and cooked to a safe temperature dos not pose a problem. Just be sure coko meats in teh center of the grill and to trim off those charred portions!

Caregiver Support Group

The meetings take place in Conference Room C in the Carson Professional Building from 10:30-11:30 a.m. For more information, contact Julie Wagner at 989-584-3971 ext. 172.
