Relay For Life

CCH Emergency Department is participating in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life on August 12-13 at the Ithaca High School Track. The ER team will be selling CHINESE SKY LANTERNS for $10.00 in memory of a loved one. You may also make a wish for a loved one who is a survivor. SKY LANTERNS are a mini hot air balloon that will float for 12 minutes and is 100% bio-degradable (safe to the environment). You can let it off yourself or we can let it off during the Relay. They will be available for purchase in the ER. Thank you for your support.

Pink Ribbon Affair

Carson City Hospital is working with Seven Sisters Quilt Shop in Carson City to design and sew a special quilt for the 2011 Pink Ribbon Affair. The kit to sew a square is $5 each. The kits will be available starting June 1. To purchase a square, stop by Seven Sisters or contact Andrea Russell at 989-584-3971 ext. 456 or Mary Jones at ext. 348.

New Support Group
|
Carson City Hospital provides a meeting place for the Alzheimer's Association's Caregiver Support Group on the second Monday of each month. This group encourages caregivers to maintain their own personal, physical, and emotional health while caring for those with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. The meetings take place in Conference Room C in the Carson Professional Building from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. For more information, contact Julie Wagner at 989-584-3971 ext. 172.

Disasters can happen at any time. If you are away from home do you know where to find safe shelter locations? Do you know what the emergency procedures are for your child's school or for your workplace? Will people who count on you know what to do if you can't reach them? Know how to make sure you and your loved ones are safe in a disaster, no matter where you are.

THINGS TO DO
Below is a list of thing that you can do to achieve your goal this month. Choose at least one, and complete it.
- Have a phone with a cord and a car charger for your cell phone standing by in case of a power failure.
- Develop a plan for how your family will stay in touch during a disaster.
- Program In Case of Emergency (ICE) numbers into all family cell phones.

Scholarship Award
Each year, the Carson City Hospital Auxiliary (CCHA) awards college scholarships to local students based on community involvement, academic achievement, and planned course of study. This year's winners were Brianna Fuller of Fulton High School, Nicholas Nassif of Central Montcalm High School, and Lauren Buhr of Fowler High School. Each student received a scholarship in the amount of $500 to use toward school tuition, books or living expenses. Fuller said she plans to attend Trine University and study physical therapy. Nassif plans to attend Central Michigan University and study math and pre-medicine. Buhr plans to attend Alma College and study pre-medicine.

Kristen Litwiller has been hired as the Benefits Coordinator for Carson City Hospital. Kristen is originally from Ashley and comes to Carson City Hospital from the Foster Swift Collins & Smith, P.C. law firm in Lansing where she has worked for the last six years as their HR Assistant. Her primary focus at Foster Swift was coordinating employee benefits and working with their Director on employee relations. She is not new to healthcare as she worked as an administrative assistant, primarily coordinating employee benefits, for Ovid Healthcare Center and at Inham Medical Center/Greenlawn. Help us give Kristen a warm welcome!

After working in The Grand Rapids Press Marketing Department for almost 15 years, Dave Hayden joined the Carson City Hospital Public Relations and Marketing team at the beginning of June. Dave graduated from Michigan State University with an Advertising degree. He lives in Ionia with his wife, Jennifer, and their two kids, Jack (6) and Alec (3). He is an avid golfer and enjoys Frank Sinatra music. Be sure to give Dave a warm CCH welcome when you see him roaming the hallways!

Join Jan Russell, N.P., in Conference Room A at the hospital to explore old and new birth control options with potential for reduction in menstrual bleeding. Participate in the discussion of non-contraceptive benefits of newer oral contraceptives, IUDs, shots, implants, vaginal rings and more. Safety of menstrual suppression will be reviewed. Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Each month, CCH will host a new, exciting speaker with topics ranging from inspirational and educational to important health-care advice. Each Brown Bag Lunch Series presentation takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Conference Room A in the hospital. Bring a lunch or enjoy complimentary coffee, tea and treats!
