Happy 100th Birthday!

In case you didn't see it, the Daily News and Carson Gazette ran a story about Edna Failing Kaufman, who turned 100 years old on April 26. Edna was a long-time volunteer here at Carson City Hospital. It's a great story, and has made national news! The Chicago Tribune picked up the story on the Associated Press wire and ran it in their March 24 edition. Our own Public Relations Manager, Jennifer Churchill, is quoted at the end of the story. You can read The Daily News version online at http://www.thedailynews.cc/main.asp?SectionID=2&SubSectionID=2& ArticleID=38545

Do 1 Thing Logo
The mission of www.do1thing.us is to move individuals, families, organizations, businesses, and communities to prepare for all hazards and become disaster resilient.

"I support my community because someday I might need their support."

Disasters can happen at any time. If you are away from home do you know where to find safe shelter locations? Do you know what the emergency procedures are for your child's school or for your workplace? Will people who count on you know what to do if you can't reach them? Know how to make sure you and your loved ones are safe in a disaster, no matter where you are.

THE GOALMake sure everyone in your household can receive, understand, and act on information received in an emergency.

THINGS TO DOBelow is a list of thing that you can do to achieve your goal this month.

Choose at least one, and complete it.

-Be sure emergency procedures are in place for your workplace or school.

-Give emergency kits to people who count on you (college sutdents, elderly parents, etc)

Filming On Location!

MOA

On April 12, Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA) videographers were here at Carson City Hospital to shoot film for a promotional video about osteopathic medicine. CCH was chosen as a location site for filming buildings and staff because of our ostepathic heritage and the fact that we are the oldest ostepathic hospital in the state of Michigan! Thanks to our Chief Radiologist, Dr. Donna Moyer, for her MOA connections and providing us with this great opportunity!

Wednesday, May 18: Brown Bag Lunch Series

Are You Catching Enough Zzzzz's? with Jeremy Worsley, L.M.S.W., A.C.S.W.

Jeremy Worsley

Sleep. It refreshes us like nothing else. It can be occasionally short-lived, perpetually comforting, and absolutely mandatory for survival. Although we spend 33% of our lives asleep, we barely give it a moment's notice ... until we can't sleep. Then we think about it to the point of obsession. For millions of people, the consequences of a poor night's sleep - higher stress, increased mistakes, difficulty concentrating - are everyday occurrences. But it doesn't have to be this way. Join Jeremy on May 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the hospital Conference Rooms for an explanation on how sleep can affect your health.

It's All About The Access!

Patient AccessCarson City Hospital's Patient Access Department often provides the very first impression patients and visitors have of our organization. This is so crucial because, as they say, first impressions are everything. "When people aren't feeling well we need to be fast, accurate and above all, friendly," said Davina Davidson, Patient Access Manager. "Our main priority is to balance efficiency with large doses of caring and concern." Last year, CCH's patient registrations totaled 78,612. That works out to about 215 registrations per day! The Patient Access Department has also worked hard during the past year to implement a new point-of-service collections program that has been very successful. During National Healthcare Access Personnel Week, we acknowledged our special goodwill ambassadors in the Patient Access Department for initiating the caring spirit that exists among all our hospital staff. Thank you for all you do, Patient Access team!

We're Under Construction!

New addition near the Emergency Department

Wednesday, April 20, CCH began construction near the entrance to the Emergency Department. The project, which is expected to last four to six weeks, will involve the construction of a holding pad for temporary placement of the hospital's fixed MRI and 64-slice CT scanner when updates or servicing need to be performed on this important medical equipment. The first phase of the project will involve demolition of the area outside the west door near the existing Emergency Department patient entrance. During phase two of the project, the Emergency Department patient entrance will be temporarily closed and visitors will be directed to enter through the west entrance of the Emergency Department, just a few feet away from the existing entrance. Security fencing will be in place throughout the entire project. Be prepared to direct lost visitors to their destination!
