Culinary Arts Students in the Kitchen
with Chef from The Fat Radish | |

Our Culinary Arts students cooked up some new skills when they participated in a workshop with Chef Nick Wilbur (wearing blue cap in photo) from The Fat Radish restaurant. After spending twelve weeks in the classroom, this was a wonderful way to inspire them before they set out on their twelve-week internships in corporate kitchens.
Held in the galley kitchen of an exclusive Hudson Street townhouse, students learned tips from Chef Wilbur and prepared healthy and delicious dishes with seasonal ingredients.
The cooking workshop was organized by Quintessentially, a high-end concierge membership club, and was also open to club members. Project Renewal was selected as one of five charities to benefit from a myriad of events held over the course of fashion week. Proceeds from the events will benefit Project Renewal's programs.
Thanks to Junior Board members Amanda Tomasello and Robin Lee (standing far right in photo) for the introduction. |
Meet Derick Lewis: From Student
to Assistant Manager | |

Meet Culinary Arts graduate Derick Lewis. Derick was hired at Project Renewal's Comfort Foods after completing the Culinary Arts Training Program. A year and a half later, Derick was promoted and now serves as an Assistant Manager of Comfort Foods.
"I've got one word to describe Project Renewal: opportunity. This is a huge opportunity for me and I'm going to take advantage of it. A lot of guys come here and I tell them, you don't know the opportunities you have. You're getting the same education some people pay thousands of dollars for. Project Renewal is the best thing that happened to me. If you come here and you take advantage of the situation, there's plenty of opportunity for everybody. "
"I just really enjoy it when people eat my food and say, 'Derick, this is really good!' It's a feeling of accomplishment because of where I came from."
Thank you to the Tiger Foundation and the Robin Hood Foundation for their continued leadership support of our Next Step Employment Program that helps find jobs for clients like Derick.
