What's New In Sunday School?
| This week the kids will be learning about Jacob and Esau reconciling based on Genesis 25.
The kids are learning new songs and will be singing for us during worship this Sunday, October 16th. Note: Our Sunday School hour starts at 10:30 (as soon as the worship service is over the kids head to room 104). During the Sunday School hour parents are encouraged to either stay with the kids and enjoy learning with them, attend an adult Bible Study being offered at the same time, or to run errands and come back for the children at 11:30. Confirmation is also offered at the time in case you'd like to sit in and learn more about our Methodist heritage. |

Mission a Month - Operation Dry Bottom
| New Hope's mission for October is Operation Dry Bottom. Operation Dry Bottom provides diapers and pull-ups to The Howe Neighborhood Family Resource Center. The Center works with young at risk families (from prenatal through five years) on parenting and particularly supporting children to reach their developmental milestones so they will be school ready when they are five years old. 90% of their clients are very low income and find it difficult to come up with money to make ends meet, much less to buy diapers and pull-ups. So for the month of October New Hope will be supporting their program "Operation Dry Bottom" by collecting diapers. They need diapers of all sizes, however the biggest needs are larger diapers (sizes 4 - 6) and pull-ups. To donate diapers just bring them with you church and leave them in Room 102.
COMING NEXT MONTH - In November and December we will be collecting food for the holidays in addition to the desperately needed cereal, peanut butter, soup and hygienic products.

De Pere Food Pantry Food Sort
| New Hope collects food on an ongoing basis and takes it to the De Pere Food Pantry which is located across the street in St. Anne's Church. On Saturday, October 22nd the pantry will be receiving lots of food from the Boy Scout's Annual Food Drive and will need help sorting the items when they are delivered. It's like "backwards grocery shopping" and children are welcome to help also. If you would like to help sort food, just show up in the early afternoon on the 22nd at St. Anne's and they'll put you to work.

DOING OUR JOB "Children's lives are affected by every adult they interact with at church." - Rev. Adam Hamilton
| The excerpt below is quoted from Sound Bites Ministry
We have created a culture of violence, one that numbs the minds of children who are often not supported by parents. We've created a culture where drugs, alcohol, and teen sex are endorsed everywhere we turn. We indulge our children with violent toys and video games; we let them see movies or television programs that are saturated with violence. A moment of silence at the beginning of the [school] day would not change these realities. What would change them is a personal and genuine Christian faith. It is through our faith in Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit working in us that we find the strength, convictions, and power to live as Christ's people. But it is not the job of the school to bring our children to Christ; it is the responsibility of parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends, and the church. If kids meet Christ today it will be because of churches that are willing to be lighthouses and because, during the hour a week we have these kids in Sunday school, church members take seriously the call to teach and mentor children and lead children to discipleship or because others are willing to be youth group sponsors and youth Bible study leaders. Lives are changed because of what our Sunday school teachers and youth leaders do. Children's lives are affected by every adult they interact with at church. And more children from our community need to be invited to church. If our children will learn the Lord's Prayer, if they will come to know Noah and Abraham, Esther and Ruth , Joseph and Mary, and most important, Jesus Christ, they will do so because we are doing our job in caring for children and loving them into the kingdom of God! -- Adam Hamilton in Confronting the Controversies |

Single & Parenting Class
Help & Hope for Single Parents
| Every Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.
If you're a single parent, you're probably tired, overwhelmed and feeling a bit underappreciated. That's why New Hope is sponsoring a Single & Parenting group - to share tips and parenting wisdom that will help you find rest, hope and encouragement.
Other people don't truly understand how tough it is to be a single parent-day after day after day. Sometimes you want to give up. And that's a normal reaction-you're doing the job of two people. You should be tired.
The thing is, you deeply desire to do what's best for your kids, but you worry that you can't. Sometimes it's all you can do to survive from one day to the next.
So what can you do?
Single & Parenting groups address these concerns. You'll discover how to deal with your deep-down worries and your day-to-day struggles.
At a weekly Single & Parenting group, you'll meet with other single parents to learn and discuss some amazing parenting strategies and hope-filled insights.
The 13-week series meets Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m. The sessions are all stand alone so participants can join at any time in the series.
Anyone who can benefit is welcome to attend - please feel free to invite friends, relatives and neighbors to come.
