Matching Gift Challenge Launches

When I was a business owner a dear friend of mine would often remind me how important cash flow is to a growing, vibrant organization.  So as we move into the fall months, we have great ministries planned and need another "booster shot" of cash so we can continue to grow at a healthy pace.  To help us journey forward with confidence, Pastor Greg and Kerry have issued a challenge.  They decided to donate a leadership gift of $10,000.  It is their hope that our church family can match that gift - or even overmatch it!

Our church leaders are inviting you to participate in this challenge.  Prayerfully consider what God is calling you to offer, above and beyond your current giving.  Mark your gift "Matching Challenge" and drop in the offering plate or in the mail.

Our church family is grateful to God for your faithful support!

Bible Presentation Sunday

The children learned in Sunday School last week that God gave us the Bible as a tool to help us grow spiritually.  They also learned that trying to grow spiritually without reading the Bible is much like trying to push a nail into a wall without using a hammer!  (Very difficult and rather foolish!)

New Hope will be presenting children (1st through 3rd grade**) with their very own Bible this Sunday, September 18th during worship at 9:30.  What an exciting time as they are growing in their reading skills to be able to practice by reading what they are learning in Sunday school.  A great activity to do one on one with your child or as a family project!

You will want to encourage your children to bring their Bibles with them when they come to Sunday school each week as they will be using them in class also.

Please let the church office know if you are able to attend by emailing Patti at patti@newhopedepere.com or calling 964-0143.

We are excited to celebrate this milestone with your child!

**Parents - if you have a child older than 3rd grade who has not yet received their Bible please contact the church office as soon as possible so we can make sure they receive one as well!

Sound Techs Needed

Sound Techs
Harry Clifford and Ron Powell learning the audio board

Due to the change in our worship time, Scott LaPlante (who has volunteered as our audio tech for the past 5 years!) will no longer be able to stay for the entire worship service.  Therefore we are in need of volunteers to fill that void.  Some Sundays we'll need someone for the entire service and other weeks for only the second half of the service.  If you are interested in being trained to work the audio board please contact Patti via email or by calling the church office at 964-0143.  Training dates will be announced soon.

Barb Ristow, this class will meet at 10:30 on Sunday mornings in "The Catacomb".

Life and Teachings of Jesus - Sundays 10:30 a.m.

Thank You Cleaning Brigade!

Many, many thanks to Judy Torphy, Lonna Calder, LaRee and Alex Peters who worked like crazy last week to clean the corners and make the church sparkle for Rally Day!

New Hope and Cinnabon® Buns!

Note:  The following snippet by Steve Grissom, founder of DivorceCare can also be applied to church so I thought I'd share it with you.  ~Patti

"Imagine for a moment that you had the most effective and efficient marketing tool ever invented to help publicize your DivorceCare group (*Church).  Actually, you don't have to imagine. You already have this valuable tool.

Now, go on to imagine that it doesn't cost you anything to use this tool. It's powerful and it's free! I'm describing "word-of-mouth" (WOM) advertising. It's as old as the first successful product ever invented and marketed, and survives because it really works.

Remember your first Cinnabon® roll? It doesn't get much better than the warm, buttery cinnamon bun topped with cream cheese icing. How many friends did you tell when you first discovered these wonderful creations? How many sales did you make for Cinnabon? How much did it cost them? How many of you will go buy one just because I reminded you how good they are?

Get the Idea?

Word-of-mouth advertising consistently draws more people to DivorceCare groups (*New Hope Church) than ALL OTHER FORMS OF PROMOTION COMBINED."

So we encourage you to tell people about New Hope Church!  Go ahead, do it!  Tell them you've found something wonderful and you want them to try it too!

Tower of Babel

This week the kids will be learning about the Tower of Babel based on Genesis 11

We have launched into the new Sunday School year.  Our new Sunday School hour starting at 10:30 (as soon as the worship service is over the kids head to room 104) is off to a great start.  Between now and Christmas they will learn about the Tower of Babel, Jacob and Esau, the crossing of the Red Sea, the Battle of Jericho and more!  The kids will also learning new songs to share with us during worship on a regular basis.    Sunday School

For snack time, we ask the parents to bring in a box of crackers, cookies or snack item that will be used over the next couple months.  There is also a sign up sheet in the Sunday School room to take turns bringing a fresh fruit snack each week.

During the Sunday School hour parents are encouraged to either stay with the kids and enjoy learning with them, attend an adult Bible Study being offered at the same time, or to run errands and come back for the children at 11:30.  (Confirmation will also be offered at that time in case you'd like to sit in and learn more about our Methodist heritage.)

DOING OUR JOB
"Children's lives are affected by every adult they interact with at church."  - Rev. Adam Hamilton

The excerpt below is quoted from Sound Bites Ministry

We have created a culture of violence, one that numbs the minds of children who are often not supported by parents.  We've created a culture where drugs, alcohol, and teen sex are endorsed everywhere we turn.  We indulge our children with violent toys and video games; we let them see movies or television programs that are saturated with violence.  A moment of silence at the beginning of the [school] day would not change these realities.  What would change them is a personal and genuine Christian faith.  It is through our faith in Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit working in us that we find the strength, convictions, and power to live as Christ's people.

But it is not the job of the school to bring our children to Christ; it is the responsibility of parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends, and the church.  If kids meet Christ today it will be because of churches that are willing to be lighthouses and because, during the hour a week we have these kids in Sunday school, church members take seriously the call to teach and mentor children and lead children to discipleship or because others are willing to be youth group sponsors and youth Bible study leaders.  Lives are changed because of what our Sunday school teachers and youth leaders do.  Children's lives are affected by every adult they interact with at church.  And more children from our community need to be invited to church.  If our children will learn the Lord's Prayer, if they will come to know Noah and Abraham, Esther and Ruth , Joseph and Mary, and most important, Jesus Christ, they will do so because we are doing our job in caring for children and loving them into the kingdom of God!

Single & Parenting Class

Help & Hope for Single Parents

Every Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.logo

If you're a single parent, you're probably tired, overwhelmed and feeling a bit underappreciated. That's why New Hope is sponsoring a  Single & Parenting group - to share tips and parenting wisdom that will help you find rest, hope and encouragement.

Other people don't truly understand how tough it is to be a single parent-day after day after day. Sometimes you want to give up. And that's a normal reaction-you're doing the job of two people. You should be tired.

The thing is, you deeply desire to do what's best for your kids, but you worry that you can't. Sometimes it's all you can do to survive from one day to the next.

So what can you do?

Single & Parenting groups address these concerns. You'll discover how to deal with your deep-down worries and your day-to-day struggles.

At a weekly Single & Parenting group, you'll meet with other single parents to learn and discuss some amazing parenting strategies and hope-filled insights.

The 13-week series meets Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m.  The sessions are all stand alone so participants can join at any time in the series.

Anyone who can benefit is welcome to attend - please feel free to invite friends, relatives and neighbors to come.

More info is available online at singleandparenting.org
