New Hope is Connected to Birth of the
Methodist Church in Romania!
| Rev. Daniel Topalski, pastor of our partner church in Russe, Bulgaria and District Superintendent of Bulgaria and now Romania sends this news:
"The United Methodist Church in Romania was born during the morning worship service on September 4, 2011 in Kluj. The service was led by Superintendent Daniel Topalski from Bulgaria. Fifteen candidates were accepted as members and the Holy Communion was celebrated after the sermon dedicated to the importance of the Eucharist for the life of the church. After that the charge conference was constituted. The members of the conference elected five-members church council and recommended Rares Calugar to be appointed as a local pastor and Samuel Goia - as a lay pastor for the ministry in the villages. The recommendations will be reported to the Board of Ordained Ministry in Bulgaria for supporting vote. The conference was closed with a prayer for the future growth of the UMC in Romania.

What's New in Sunday School?
| "Need to know info" for parents
A fantastic Sunday School year is ready to be launched this Sunday starting at 10:30. As soon as the worship service is over the kids can head to room 104 where they will have an hour of fun learning about God. Between now and Christmas they will learn about the Tower of Babel, Jacob and Esau, the crossing of the Red Sea, the Battle of Jericho and more! We ask the parents to bring in a box of crackers, cookies or snack item that we'll use over the next couple months. We will also have a sign up sheet in the Sunday School room to take turns bringing a fresh fruit snack each week. This first week we'll all enjoy ICE CREAM SUNDAES for Rally Day! During the Sunday School hour parents are encouraged to either stay with the kids and enjoy learning with them, attend an adult Bible Study being offered at the same time, or to run errands and come back for the children at 11:30. (Confirmation will also be offered at that time in case you'd like to sit in and learn more about our Methodist heritage.) |

DOING OUR JOB "Children's lives are affected by every adult they interact with at church." - Rev. Adam Hamilton
| The excerpt below is quoted from Sound Bites Ministry
We have created a culture of violence, one that numbs the minds of children who are often not supported by parents. We've created a culture where drugs, alcohol, and teen sex are endorsed everywhere we turn. We indulge our children with violent toys and video games; we let them see movies or television programs that are saturated with violence. A moment of silence at the beginning of the [school] day would not change these realities. What would change them is a personal and genuine Christian faith. It is through our faith in Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit working in us that we find the strength, convictions, and power to live as Christ's people. But it is not the job of the school to bring our children to Christ; it is the responsibility of parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends, and the church. If kids meet Christ today it will be because of churches that are willing to be lighthouses and because, during the hour a week we have these kids in Sunday school, church members take seriously the call to teach and mentor children and lead children to discipleship or because others are willing to be youth group sponsors and youth Bible study leaders. Lives are changed because of what our Sunday school teachers and youth leaders do. Children's lives are affected by every adult they interact with at church. And more children from our community need to be invited to church. If our children will learn the Lord's Prayer, if they will come to know Noah and Abraham, Esther and Ruth , Joseph and Mary, and most important, Jesus Christ, they will do so because we are doing our job in caring for children and loving them into the kingdom of God! -- Adam Hamilton in Confronting the Controversies |

ME an EVANGELIST? NO WAY!
| The first in a series on "Sharing & Inviting"
by Rev. Barbara Ristow Associate of Evangelism, Wisconsin Annual Conference UMC ME an EVANGELIST? NO WAY! The words evangelism, and evangelist can invoke a number of feelings and/or reactions in people. Many times the first reaction is a negative one, "those evangelists on TV-they talk kind crazy, and it seems they are always asking for money." Another thought might be one of curiosity, "I've heard that word, but I'm not exactly sure what that means," or perhaps, "I'd like to hear more." Yet another, and often the most common response, is one of fear and rejection, "Me an Evangelist? No way! I'm not going to stand on the street corner or knock on doors and force my religious beliefs on people. And besides, I really don't know that much about the Bible." The basic definition for the word evangelism is really quite simple: An ancient Christian term, derived from the Greek of the New Testament, evangelion, the good news, meaning the "gospel," or God's good news of the promise of salvation (the removal of guilt from sin through Christ's sacrifice on the cross) to all who have faith in Christ. Therefore, an evangelist is simply one who brings or announces the good news (the Gospel) of God or Jesus Christ. Two simple words not to be feared or rejected by those who claim the name Christian (a follower of Jesus Christ). Watch for the second article in this series Sharing & Inviting wherein you will hear what the Bible says about us all being called to be evangelists, or sharers of the Good News. |

Single & Parenting Class
Help & Hope for Single Parents
| Every Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.
If you're a single parent, you're probably tired, overwhelmed and feeling a bit underappreciated. That's why New Hope is sponsoring a Single & Parenting group - to share tips and parenting wisdom that will help you find rest, hope and encouragement.
Other people don't truly understand how tough it is to be a single parent-day after day after day. Sometimes you want to give up. And that's a normal reaction-you're doing the job of two people. You should be tired.
The thing is, you deeply desire to do what's best for your kids, but you worry that you can't. Sometimes it's all you can do to survive from one day to the next.
So what can you do?
Single & Parenting groups address these concerns. You'll discover how to deal with your deep-down worries and your day-to-day struggles.
At a weekly Single & Parenting group, you'll meet with other single parents to learn and discuss some amazing parenting strategies and hope-filled insights.
The 13-week series meets Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m. The sessions are all stand alone so participants can join at any time in the series.
Anyone who can benefit is welcome to attend - please feel free to invite friends, relatives and neighbors to come.
