Sermon Series:  "Grow Where You Are Planted"

August 28th Message

"Prune Your Way to Real Growth!"

based on Matthew 16: 21-28

Greetings!

Whew!  What a summer!  Roxy Reckelberg snapped this photo in my office after the mini Bible camp the other day and things were definitely a tad askew!  (Code for: "my office was mess")

Whew! What a summer!

We had a wonderfully fun summer here at New Hope with our mini Bible camps, the all church picnic at the swimming lake, riding water slides and coasters at Mount Olympus, biking on Washington Island, great sermons and music. Fun, fun, fun!  Through it all the was a common thread.  We have a kind and loving God who cares about us deeply.  Grow where you are planted...take root...let God's love blossom and shine through our actions.

It was a great summer that's for sure.

See you in church.  I'll save you a seat!

Patti

BTW - check out the bulletin boards or our Facebook page for lots of biking pictures!

We are in need of an adult (or a rotation list of adults) along with older youth to offer childcare to the attendees of the Single & Parenting and the DivorceCare classes on Wednesday evenings.

These programs are not only excellent resources for those in our community, but they are an excellent way to introduce others to the love and hope to be found here at New Hope.

Walk to Emmaus
Spiritual Experience to be held in October

What is it????

The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The program's approach seriously considers the model of Christ's servanthood and encourages Christ's disciples to act in ways appropriate to being "a servant of all."

The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with a 72-hour short course in Christianity, comprised of fifteen talks by lay and clergy on the themes of God's grace, disciplines of Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church. The course is wrapped in prayer and meditation, special times of worship and daily celebration of Holy Communion. The "Emmaus community," made up of those who have attended an Emmaus weekend, support the 72-hour experience with a prayer vigil, by preparing and serving meals, and other acts of love and self-giving. The Emmaus Walk typically begins Thursday evening and concludes Sunday evening. Men and women attend separate weekends.

During and after the three days, Emmaus leaders encourage participants to meet regularly in small groups. The members of the small groups challenge and support one another in faithful living. Participants seek to Christianize their environments of family, job, and community through the ministry of their congregations. The three-day Emmaus experience and follow-up groups strengthen and renew Christian people as disciples of Jesus Christ and as active members of the body of Christ in mission to the world.

The men and women's walks are held separately.  The next men's walk is October 6-9 and the women will follow on October 13-16.  Several men and women from New Hope have already signed up to go to the event to be held in Appleton.  If you would like more information contact Clark or Maria Stevens at 662-0103.

Single & Parenting Class

Help & Hope for Single Parents

Every Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.logo

If you're a single parent, you're probably tired, overwhelmed and feeling a bit underappreciated. That's why New Hope is sponsoring a  Single & Parenting group - to share tips and parenting wisdom that will help you find rest, hope and encouragement.

Other people don't truly understand how tough it is to be a single parent-day after day after day. Sometimes you want to give up. And that's a normal reaction-you're doing the job of two people. You should be tired.

The thing is, you deeply desire to do what's best for your kids, but you worry that you can't. Sometimes it's all you can do to survive from one day to the next.

So what can you do?

Single & Parenting groups address these concerns. You'll discover how to deal with your deep-down worries and your day-to-day struggles.

At a weekly Single & Parenting group, you'll meet with other single parents to learn and discuss some amazing parenting strategies and hope-filled insights.

The 13-week series meets Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m.  The sessions are all stand alone so participants can join at any time in the series.

Anyone who can benefit is welcome to attend - please feel free to invite friends, relatives and neighbors to come.

More info is available online at singleandparenting.org

The 13 week program is designed so that you can begin attending on any week as each session topic stands on it's own.  You can continue attending until you have covered all the topics or until you feel ready to move on.  More information is available at divorcecare.org.
