Worship Will Start at 9:30 a.m. beginning Sept 4th WHEN SHOULD SUNDAY SCHOOL BE?
| At the July meeting, the Church Council voted unanimously to continue with a single worship service moving forward. They also voted unanimously to change the start time to 9:30 beginning Labor Day weekend (Sept 4th) feeling the later start time would work for the majority of the congregation.
Other reasons in support of the decision for a single service were less strain on volunteers, retaining visitors, a stronger music presence, more welcoming/larger group, opportunities for Bible Study, classes and New Hope 101.
The Council requested that we survey you and get your input in deciding the best time for the Sunday School hour. The big question is: "Should Sunday School be before the worship service or after?"
With that question in mind, we ask that you fill out this short survey (3 minutes) and let us know what your preferences are. As always, we appreciate your input and suggestions both electronically, by phone and face-to-face.

Single & Parenting Class to Start Aug 24th
Help & Hope for Single Parents
| Every Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.
If you're a single parent, you're probably tired, overwhelmed and feeling a bit underappreciated. That's why New Hope is sponsoring a Single & Parenting group - to share tips and parenting wisdom that will help you find rest, hope and encouragement.
Other people don't truly understand how tough it is to be a single parent-day after day after day. Sometimes you want to give up. And that's a normal reaction-you're doing the job of two people. You should be tired.
The thing is, you deeply desire to do what's best for your kids, but you worry that you can't. Sometimes it's all you can do to survive from one day to the next.
So what can you do?
Single & Parenting groups address these concerns. You'll discover how to deal with your deep-down worries and your day-to-day struggles.
At a weekly Single & Parenting group, you'll meet with other single parents to learn and discuss some amazing parenting strategies and hope-filled insights.
The 13-week series starts Wednesday, August 24th at 6:45 p.m. The sessions are all stand alone so participants can join at any time in the series.
Anyone who can benefit is welcome to attend - please feel free to invite friends, relatives and neighbors to come.

Bike Adventure to Washington Island

All day Saturday, August 20th
We are going to have a blast on Saturday, August 20th! We'll meet at New Hope at 8:15 a.m. load up and head to Door County where we'll take the ferry to Washington Island for the day. We can ride, eat a picnic lunch, check out the shops, relax on the beach. Ride a little or ride a lot...it's up to you. On the way home we'll stop and get a bite to eat. Sounds like a great day!
Costs: The ferry - $16 for adults (rider and bike) and $10 for children under 11
Pitch in for gas to car pool
Bring a sack lunch or purchase on the island
Dinner on the way home
Treats (ice cream!)?
Bikes are available for rent on the island for $4/hour if desired (If you rent on the island, decrease your ferry cost by $4)

H2O Jesus Children's Mini Bible Camp
|
Apparently our name was confusing because H2O Jesus day ended up being a wet, rainy day! We moved the beach indoors for the day and had a blast anyway. We have decided that next year we'll call it "Sunny Day at the Beach with Jesus" just so the weather man has no confusion.  | | Evan and Alex rid themselves of leprosy by washing 7 times in the river |

Youth Trip to Mount Olympus Theme Park

We had an awesome day with gorgeous weather as 19 youth and adults spent the day zipping on coasters, plunging down water slides, and jumping in the surf of huge waves. It was a blast!

UM101 is a free, basic online course designed for United Methodists or anyone wanting to know more about the denomination. Each of the four modules contains interactive features and takes about one hour to complete. The course is presented by umc.org and led by minister Tom Slack. We will also be holding a New Hope 101 course here at church on Sunday, August 21st at 10:15 for anyone who is interested in learning more about becoming a member of New Hope's growing congregation. |

Favorite Bible Verses to use for devotions & reflection

A couple weeks ago I requested that you share your favorite Bible verses so that others can use them as a summer devotional. Whether you choose to reflect on one verse a day or one verse a week; enjoy this opportunity to embrace the scriptures that speak to others here at New Hope.
(Note: If the sender included personal thoughts, I've included that as well. You'll want to look the verses up for the exact wording and keep in mind that different translations will vary. An online link as been included for your convenience.)
- My all-time favorite is "be still and know that I am God". Especially when everything gets so crazy "be still" is a powerful and comforting command. (Psalm 46:10)
- I also like the verse about God caring about even the lilies. There's no way to think God has forgotten you when you think about a field of countless flowers! (Matthew 6:30)
- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)
- For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him will have eternal life. (John 3:l6)
- I like the the Greatest Commandment: You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, and all your mind and all your soul. This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:36)
- Kind words are like honey; sweet to the soul and healthy to the body. (Proverbs 16:24)
- Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1)
- Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn't love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that. (Ephesians 5:1)
- He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)
