Hi ,
This was a crazy fun week here at New Hope! Church picnic, youth trip to Wisconsin Dells for the day, vacation Bible school mini camp - the fun just kept coming! I've included some pictures in the ENews and there are lots more to see Sunday on the bulletin boards and on our Facebook page.

Worship Will Start at 9:30 a.m. beginning Sept 4th WHEN SHOULD SUNDAY SCHOOL BE?
| At the July meeting, the Church Council voted unanimously to continue with a single worship service moving forward. They also voted unanimously to change the start time to 9:30 beginning Labor Day weekend (Sept 4th) feeling the later start time would work for the majority of the congregation.
Other reasons in support of the decision for a single service were less strain on volunteers, retaining visitors, a stronger music presence, more welcoming/larger group, opportunities for Bible Study, classes and New Hope 101.
The Council requested that we survey you and get your input in deciding the best time for the Sunday School hour. The big question is: "Should Sunday School be before the worship service or after?"
With that question in mind, we ask that you fill out this short survey (3 minutes) and let us know what your preferences are. As always, we appreciate your input and suggestions both electronically, by phone and face-to-face.

Sand Competition Was Fierce at Picnic
| The church picnic was a blast and the sand creation competition was fierce! Thanks to all who came, brought yummy food, dug in the sand, went for a splash, and had a chuckle or two. Also thanks to Dick Froling and Clark Stevens for judging the sand creation competition.

Youth Trip to Mount Olympus Theme Park

We had an awesome day with gorgeous weather as 19 youth and adults spent the day zipping on coasters, plunging down water slides, and jumping in the surf of huge waves. It was a blast!

H2O Jesus Children's Mini Bible Camp
|
Apparently our name was confusing because H2O Jesus day ended up being a wet, rainy day! We moved the beach indoors for the day and had a blast anyway. We have decided that next year we'll call it "Sunny Day at the Beach with Jesus" just so the weather man has no confusion.  | | Evan and Alex rid themselves of leprosy by washing 7 times in the river |

Bike Adventure to Washington Island

All day Saturday, August 20th
We are going to have a blast on Saturday, August 20th! We'll meet at New Hope at 8:15 a.m. load up and head to Door County where we'll take the ferry to Washington Island for the day. We can ride, eat a picnic lunch, check out the shops, relax on the beach. Ride a little or ride a lot...it's up to you. On the way home we'll stop and get a bite to eat. Sounds like a great day!
Costs: The ferry - $16 for adults (rider and bike) and $10 for children under 11
Pitch in for gas to car pool
Bring a sack lunch or purchase on the island
Dinner on the way home
Treats (ice cream!)?
Bikes are available for rent on the island for $4/hour if desired (If you rent on the island, decrease your ferry cost by $4)

Mission a Month - Collecting School Supplies & Staffing
The 2011 Back-To-School Store
| New Hope's August mission is going to be collecting school/office supplies for both Freedom House and for our Sunday School here at New Hope. (August was selected because there are a lot of back to school sales that can be taken advantage of in July, so watch for the sales!)

- Backpacks
- Any school item is great!

Staffing the Back-To-School Store Volunteers are needed to help fill backpacks & outfit children once again! Service League Green Bay will be hosting their 2011 Back-to-School Store on Wednesday, August 10th at East High School, 1415 East Walnut Street, Green Bay. Help is needed beginning on August 1st unloading vehicles; August 8th helping to set up the event & preparing 1300 backpacks for middle schoolers; and August 10th throughout the day of the event as clerks and personal shoppers. Approximately 1,500 children are invited to the store itself this year to fill new backpacks with everything from clothing and school supplies and offering vision and dental screenings by healthcare professionals. As demand for social services increases, so does the need for more volunteers. In 2010, approximately 550 people donated their time. If you'd like to get involved, see the sign up sheet on the back table or send Patti an email and let us know when you can help.

Summer Sunday School Leaders Needed
| Sign up for a week, two or more!
We are offering Summer Sunday School for preschoolers to 8 year olds and are looking for some folks who are willing to take a Sunday (or 2 or 3) to provide leadership. We'll take care of the preparation, just show up a few minutes early so you can be familiar with the plans for the day. The lesson will consist of a video or story followed by a few discussion questions and a game. Click here to sign up today! UM101 is a free, basic online course designed for United Methodists or anyone wanting to know more about the denomination. Each of the four modules contains interactive features and takes about one hour to complete. The course is presented by umc.org and led by minister Tom Slack. We will also be holding a New Hope 101 course here at church on Sunday, August 21st at 10:15 for anyone who is interested in learning more about becoming a member of New Hope's growing congregation. |

Favorite Bible Verses to use for devotions & reflection

A couple weeks ago I requested that you share your favorite Bible verses so that others can use them as a summer devotional. Whether you choose to reflect on one verse a day or one verse a week; enjoy this opportunity to embrace the scriptures that speak to others here at New Hope. It's not too late to send your favorites to have them included in an upcoming ENews. I'll continue to post them as I receive them.
(Note: If the sender included personal thoughts, I've included that as well. You'll want to look the verses up for the exact wording and keep in mind that different translations will vary. An online link as been included for your convenience.)
- My all-time favorite is "be still and know that I am God". Especially when everything gets so crazy "be still" is a powerful and comforting command. (Psalm 46:10)
- I also like the verse about God caring about even the lilies. There's no way to think God has forgotten you when you think about a field of countless flowers! (Matthew 6:30)
- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)
- For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him will have eternal life. (John 3:l6)
- I like the the Greatest Commandment: You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, and all your mind and all your soul. This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:36)
- Kind words are like honey; sweet to the soul and healthy to the body. (Proverbs 16:24)
- Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1)
- Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn't love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that. (Ephesians 5:1)
- He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)

Changes to Scrip program

We have made a few changes to the Scrip program and it is now easier to use than ever! There are two ways for you to purchase Scrip.
1) Stop by the office any Sunday morning and buy one of the Scrip to Go cards for gas and/or groceries. (Kwik Trip, Fleet Farm, Woodman's, Copps, Festival Foods, Piggly Wiggly)
OR
2) Fill out a simple form to indicate the businesses you'd like to order cards for, make your check out to New Hope Scrip for the amount of your purchases and then pick up your cards the following week.
We know you'll love this simpler easy to use format as you support this New Hope fundraiser!
