VBS 2011
The kids get excited about telling others that Jesus loves them.

Last week at VBS the kids learned about telling others that Jesus loves them.  "If you told Alex that Jesus loves him, and Alex told Riley, and they told Brynn and James, and they told someone else, then pretty soon LOTS of people will know!"  It was so much fun to watch the kids as they got excited about it.  Knowing that Jesus loves us is a wonderful thing that we should all get excited about!   

 

Sunday we'll be sharing worship with our Bulgarian partners - what a fun way to get excited about sharing the joy of a loving God.

Skype Worship with Bulgarian Partners is this Sunday          

 

Be sure to be here Sunday at 9:00 a.m. to share worship with our partner church in Bulgaria via Skype over the internet.  We will sing, pray and share communion in both languages.  Invite a friend to share in this very meaningful worship experience that spans the width of the earth and melts the distance between us.    

 

By the way - the intersection of G and GV will be closed for another week.  So if you are coming from the east you'll need to plan accordingly! 


Changes to Scrip program           

  

We have made a few changes to the Scrip program and it is now easier to use than ever!  There are two ways for you to purchase Scrip.

 

1)  Stop by the office any Sunday morning and buy one of the Scrip to Go cards for gas and/or groceries.  (Kwik Trip, Fleet Farm, Woodman's, Copps, Festival Foods, Piggly Wiggly)  

OR 

2)  Fill out a simple form to indicate the businesses you'd like to order cards for, make your check out to New Hope Scrip for the amount of your purchases and then pick up your cards the following week.     

 

We know you'll love this simpler easy to use format as you support this New Hope fundraiser! 


Favorite Bible Verses to use for devotions & reflection          

  

A couple weeks ago I requested that you share your favorite Bible verses so that others can use them as a summer devotional.  Whether you choose to reflect on one verse a day or one verse a week; enjoy this opportunity to embrace the scriptures that speak to others here at New Hope.   It's not too late to send your favorites to have them included in an upcoming ENews.  I'll continue to post them as I receive them. 

 

(Note: If the sender included personal thoughts, I've included that as well.  You'll want to look the verses up for the exact wording and keep in mind that different translations will vary.  An online link as been included for your convenience.)   

  • My all-time favorite is "be still and know that I am God". Especially when everything gets so crazy "be still" is a powerful and comforting command. (Psalm 46:10)
  • I also like the verse about God caring about even the lilies. There's no way to think God has forgotten you when you think about a field of countless flowers!  (Matthew 6:30
  • I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  (Philippians 4:13
  • For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him will have eternal life.  (John 3:l6)  
  • I like the the Greatest Commandment:  You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, and all your mind and all your soul. This is the first and greatest commandment.  The second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself.  (Matthew 22:36)  
  • Kind words are like honey; sweet to the soul and healthy to the body.  (Proverbs 16:24)
  • Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.  (Hebrews 11:1)
  • Observe how Christ loved us.  His love was not cautious but extravagant.  He didn't love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us.  Love like that.  (Ephesians 5:1)  

America's Birthday Run Needs Volunteers on July 4th   


The American Cancer Society needs volunteers to assist in their inaugural 5K America's Birthday Run that starts at 10:00 a.m. on the 4th.  They are in need of four more volunteers for the water stops and 14 people to direct the runners along the route.  If you're in town and can help with this worthwhile cause please contact Adam Sutter at Adam.Sutter@cancer.org .  All volunteers will receive a race T-shirt.

NEW Community Shelter Current Needs  

The New Community Shelter has been at capacity working off of a waiting list for the past 2 weeks.  Every one of their 118 beds are occupied including the 20 Transitional Living Apartments.  This continues to be a very interesting and somewhat challenging year for them.  Following is a list of their current needs. If you want to donate you can either drop it off at their location on Mather Street, or here at New Hope and we'll make sure it is delivered there.

Summer Sunday School Leaders Needed        

Sign up for a week, two or more!

We will be offering Summer Sunday School for preschoolers to 8 year olds.  We are looking for some folks who are willing to take a Sunday (or 2 or 3) to provide leadership.  We'll take care of the preparation, just show up a few minutes early so you can be familiar with the plans for the day.  The lesson will consist of a video or story followed by a few discussion questions and a game.  Click here to sign up today!

"Feed My Starving Children" event is July 18 - 20         

This "Mission A Month" is a Karen Zarembka's favorite - join in and make a difference!

 

Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God's children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and then FMSC ships them to nearly 70 countries around the world.

 

Many people in third world countries are vegetarians or have strict dietary restrictions.  They also cannot physically tolerate rich diets as the wealthier countries eat.   The type of meal that could feed people in third world countries was very carefully thought out and designed by some of our largest food manufacturing companies to be a rice type meal with proteins, beans, dehydrated vegetables, vitamins.  One meal costs $0.22 and feeds a family of 4. 

  • Before you start the shift they will show you a video that shows what the third world countries go through.  They feed their children clay at night so they can sleep at night.  Some say that we should take care of our own in America.  While I agree that we should take care of anyone in need, the children in these countries would think it was a luxury to be able to dig into a dumpster to eat food.   While Americans may go hungry, they are not starving.
  • They make the event fun-Everyone gets stationed at different production tables.  Each table group competes to see which group can produce the most meals.
  • When the shift ends, everyone gathers around the completed pallets of food.  We pray for safe delivery and pray for the recipients of the food.

The event will be held at First English Lutheran Church located at 6331 N. Ballard Road in  

Appleton (Corner of Ballard Road and Broadway Drive).  Those interested in participating can carpool together to Appleton.

    

There are several time slots available and this a great event for anyone...great for families.  The minimum age to volunteer at FMSC is 5 years old. However, they recommend that groups of youth be 3rd grade and older.

 Youth Trip to Mount Oympus Waterpark  

For those going into grade 6 through 12


Mortals, you are invited to join us Tuesday, July 26th for a day at the colossal Mount Olympus Water and Theme Park in Wisconsin Dells.  Mt. Olympus beckons as a land of myth and adventure where the only thing you will never be, is bored.  Lose yourself in an ancient world as you brave four thrilling lands, thirty-seven steep and slippery slides, six hair-raising roller coasters, eight curve-hugging go-kart tracks, a titanic array of attractions both wet and dry! 

We are meeting at New Hope at 7:00 a.m. and will return around 8 or 9:00 p.m.  Cost is $40 for your ticket and transportation.  Bring a sack lunch and money to buy fast-food supper on the way home.    Friends are welcome!

All Church Summer Picnic         

Sunday, July 24th from 6 - 8 pm

Ashwaubomay Lake 

We will have an AWESOME all church picnic at Ashwaubomay Swimming Lake on July 24th from 6 - 8 p.m.  We will have private use of the entire lake and adjoining picnic shelter complete with lifeguards and lots of sand!   

 

We'll serve burgers and brats and ask that everyone bring a dish to pass.  (I sure hope someone brings peanut butter krispy treats!) 

 

Put on your thinking hat for the sand creation competition, maybe your team will win a prize!  Invite some friends and plan on a great time!  

Bike Adventure to Washington Island 

All day Saturday, August 20th   

 

We are going to have a blast on Saturday, August 20th!  We'll meet at New Hope at 8:15 a.m. load up and head to Door County where we'll take the ferry to Washington Island for the day.  We can ride, eat a picnic lunch, check out the shops, relax on the beach.  On the way home we'll stop and get a bite to eat.  Sounds like a great day!  

 

Costs:     The ferry - $16 for adults (rider and bike) and $10 for children under 11Biking

Pitch in for gas to car pool 

Bring a sack lunch or purchase on the island

Dinner on the way home

Treats (ice cream!)?

Bikes are available for rent on the island for $4/hour if desired (If you rent on the island, decrease your ferry cost by $4)  

 

Sign up soon so transport for bikes can be arranged.
