Sunday's Message

Sunday's Message is based on Acts 2:1-8 and First Corinthians 12:4-13

"Jesus Would Set Up a Great Support Network!"

It's Pentecost Sunday -- WEAR RED as we celebrate the birthday of the church!

Among Christians, Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus as described in the New Testament book of Acts.  For this reason, Pentecost is sometimes described as the "Birthday of the Church".

Hi ,

I have a selfish request of you this week.  As I write this I am counting down the hours until I get to see my daughter, Kari.  Wednesday night she arrives home for a visit from Honduras where she is in the Peace Corps and we both are so excited we can hardly sleep.  Please pray for safe travels.  Please pray for a relaxed and wonderful visit for her as she is caught up in a whirlwind of visiting, seeing and doing.  Please pray for this time to renew and energize her so she is able to return to her work there with a gusto. Please pray for strength for both of us when it comes time to part in a couple weeks.  Thank you my friends - I don't know what I'd do without your support.

See you Sunday - I'll be here and I'll save you a seat!

"Feed My Starving Children" event is July 18 - 20

This "Mission A Month" is a Karen Zarembka's favorite - join in and make a difference!

Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God's children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and then FMSC ships them to nearly 70 countries around the world.

Many people in third world countries are vegetarians or have strict dietary restrictions.  They also cannot physically tolerate rich diets as the wealthier countries eat.   The type of meal that could feed people in third world countries was very carefully thought out and designed by some of our largest food manufacturing companies to be a rice type meal with proteins, beans, dehydrated vegetables, vitamins.  One meal costs $0.22 and feeds a family of 4.

  • Before you start the shift they will show you a video that shows what the third world countries go through.  They feed their children clay at night so they can sleep at night.  Some say that we should take care of our own in America.  While I agree that we should take care of anyone in need, the children in these countries would think it was a luxury to be able to dig into a dumpster to eat food.   While Americans may go hungry, they are not starving.
  • They make the event fun-Everyone gets stationed at different production tables.  Each table group competes to see which group can produce the most meals.
  • When the shift ends, everyone gathers around the completed pallets of food.  We pray for safe delivery and pray for the recipients of the food.

The event will be held at First English Lutheran Church located at 6331 N. Ballard Road in

Appleton (Corner of Ballard Road and Broadway Drive).  Those interested in participating can carpool together to Appleton.

There are several time slots available and this a great event for anyone...great for families.  The minimum age to volunteer at FMSC is 5 years old. However, they recommend that groups of youth be 3rd grade and older.
