Sunday's Message

Pastor Greg's Spring Sermon Series:

"What Would Jesus Do? - Basics for How We Live"

Sunday's Message is based on Luke 24: 13-35

"Jesus Would Open Our Minds in a Close-Minded World"

Hi ,

Mother's Day weekend is near, so that MUST mean that the sun will be shining, the birds will be singing and the snow will be melted.  (Right?)  I'm looking forward to seeing all of you Sunday as we celebrate the gift of mothers, and those who are like mothers, in our lives.

Check out the volunteer opportunities below and get involved.  You'll be glad you did!

(Debating if you are the right person?  Read this first and then decide)

On another note, we still need nursery help and video techs for both the 9 and 10:30 service this week.  Please let me know today if you can help!  Thanks!

See you in church;  I'll save you a seat!

Patti

Ways You Can Help

Want to be of service and wondering where you are needed?

Check out these opportunities!

Sunday School Teachers - Oh, if we all had faith like a child!  Our children are a blessing from God and working with them on a regular basis is a wonderful way to enrich their lives as well as yours.  We need adults and older youth to:

  • Teach in the Sunday School classes each week
  • Plan and implement vacation Bible school for a week this summer
  • Plan "Summer Days" (one themed day each month during June, July & August)

Data Entry/Accounts Payable - We are in need of help entering our bills into the computer and writing the associated checks to be mailed.  This requires approximately 1 - 3 hours once a week and could be split between two people (routine entries/occasional entries).  The bank reconciliation and monthly statements will be prepared by someone else.  We will teach you our computer system and what needs to be done.

Nursery Volunteers - We are creating a rotating schedule for nursery workers.  Let us know if you are able to serve once or twice during a four month period caring for our little ones during worship.

Scrip Program - we are creating a rotating schedule for people to help out on Sunday mornings handing out previous orders and Scrip to go, and accepting new orders.  Starting the end of May or first of June, we will also need someone to pick up the Scrip orders from St. John Church in Howard between 9 and 11 a.m. and sort them for distribution before Friday noon.  Our Scrip program is an ongoing fundraiser to support our programs and ministries here at New Hope.  Through Scrip, we have raised over $1500 so far!

Please let us know by email or by calling the church office at 964-0143 if you are able to help in any of these areas.

May's Upcoming Monthly Mission -

"Change the World" Work/Clean Up Day

Saturday, May 14th      9:00 - 11:30
Making A Difference In Our Community...One Month At A Time

"Change the World" is a world wide effort by the United Methodist Church to get Methodists together, working in the community to make a difference.  Our May Mission is to be part of a much greater effort to help our world, and it is a powerful witness to the UMC teamwork in Green Bay.  Last year, about 100 people from all the UMC churches in the Green Bay area gathered to help clean up and prepare Heritage Hill for summer visitors.  This year's event is planned for Saturday, May 14th.  We will work from 9:00 to 11:30 and will finish with lunch at the park.  New Hope needs to provide potato salad for about 100 people and we are  looking for a volunteer to prepare it ahead of time.  Contact Karen Zarembka at 366-5427 or sign up on the back table if you are able to work.

Support Our Brat Stand @ Festival Foods
Friday, May 27th - Let's Be Seen In The Community!

Summer is almost here and that means time for grilling and brats!  Our next all church fund raiser will be at the Festival Foods Brat Stand on Main Street in De Pere.  By working the stand for a day we can raise the awareness of New Hope Church in the community and earn money for our church at the same time.  We are looking for volunteers to work our stand so grab a friend and sign up together!  The more the merrier.

We have a great day, Friday May 27th (the Friday of Memorial Day weekend) which means a lot of traffic at Festival Foods and that translates into more exposure and lots of brats and burger sales.

We've had lots of people sign up and

here are the times that we still need help:

10:00 am - 12:00 pm  1 or 2 people for Grilling and Serving
12:00 pm -  2:00 pm   1 or 2 people for Grilling and Serving
  2:00 pm -  4:00 pm   1 or 2 people for Grilling & Serving
4:00 pm -  6:00 pm   1 or 2 people to  Finish Grilling, Serving and Clean up

A sign up sheet will be in the back of church or please contact Christy Aniol directly by e-mail or by phone at 339-8090.

Be sure to tell your friends, family and co-workers to stop by for a yummy brat!

Training program for Bellin Run/Walk

Training dates are May 22nd and June 5th

Event is Saturday, June 11th

Get out, move more and join New Hope's team for the Bellin Run/Walk!  Our program is designed for ALL ability levels... from the couch to the finish line!

We had a great turn out for our first training session last Sunday as Jim Aniol, RRCA (Road Runners Club of America) certified coach and New Hope member, led the first group training.  The next group trainings here at New Hope will be at 11:30 a.m. on Sundays May 22nd and June 5th.  These group events are designed for ALL ability levels and everyone is welcome - so don't be scared off thinking, "I'm not a runner."  or  "I can't walk that far."  Our goal is promote activity and fellowship while you prepare for an event at your ability level.

(We are also welcome to run/walk with the Green Bay Running Club at Voyageur Park any Saturday at 7 a.m., beginning  May 14th.)

Members can e-mail any training questions that they have to Jim at  runningcoachjim@gmail.com.

HOW TO JOIN THE TEAM:

To register for the Bellin Run click here and when requested select Team Member and then select New Hope United Methodist from the drop down list of teams.  When asked the password is 830.  If you'd like your registration packet delivered to the church the week before, just indicate that you are a friend/family and that Patti is the employee.  (It makes sense on their end and I'll figure it out on our end!)

Spring Cleaning

We are grateful that John Scanlan has stepped forward and offered to help us keep our church sparkling on a weekly basis!  If you are able to help occasionally when John is unavailable or with special projects, please let us know by calling the church office at 964-0143.

Much appreciation to the Welk and Champ families who came last Friday night and steam cleaned the carpet in rooms 104 and 105 along with other much spring cleaning!  If you'd like to arrange for your bible study, family or group to come and help, please contact Pastor Greg or Patti

and we'll give you our wish list!

NEW Shelter Needs Sewing Help
The NEW Shelter recently received 100 king size blankets from an area hotel.  The are in need of someone to cut them in half and bind the edges so they will fit the single size beds they have there at the shelter.  If you are able to help, contact the shelter.  (Chet Gibbons, New Hope volunteer, has a sample blanket if you'd like to see what's involved.)
What's Going on Downtown Green Bay?

The UMW Social Concerns Committee at Bethany UMC invites us to join them on Thursday, May 17th at 7:00 p.m. for a presentation on "What Going on Downtown" by Jeff Mirkes, Executive Director of Downtown, Inc, the downtown Green Bay redevelopment authority.  The presentation will be held in the adult lounge at Bethany United Methodist Church on Echo Lane.
