Greetings!

We are ready to launch the Scrip program and I'm excited about it!  As our token guinea pig I purchased Scrip to pay for our new washer and dryer, a month's worth of gas and for a couple meals at local restaurants.  These are all items I would have purchased anyway.  I spent not one dime extra in the process.  And because of my Scrip purchases New Hope Church will receive almost $60 in revenue to be used toward our ministry and programing.  Isn't that cool? AND it is easy to use... at the gas pump I swiped the card just like I would if I was using my debit card or a credit card.

This fits perfect with budgeting and with the envelope system that Dave Ramsey promotes in Financial Peace University.  Just look ahead to the coming weeks or month and purchase what is needed for your budgeted items.  I can't help but feel that Dave Ramsey would be proud of us!

It's good for you and it's good for New Hope.  Everyone wins!

You'll be receiving a separate ENews with all the info about the program and how to sign up.  Be sure to let me know if you have any questions - I'll be glad to answer them.  I'm the guinea pig after all.

See you Sunday - I'll save you a seat!

Boy Scout Food Drive
Your help is needed this Saturday
12:30  at St. Anne's

The Boy Scouts will be collecting food from homes all over Brown County on Saturday morning, and the De Pere Christian Outreach Food Pantry located at St. Anne's Church (1 block west of New Hope) needs help sorting and storing the donated food.  If you are available to help, just report to St. Anne's at 12:30 on Saturday afternoon and they will put you to work sorting the food for easier distribution in the coming months.

Thanks for your help with this wonderful, worthwhile, local cause.
Tai Chi Group Gains Strength and Balance
Join them Saturdays at 9:00 a.m.
The Saturday morning Tai Chi group
The Saturday morning Tai Chi class led by Adam and Julia Brown

Tai Chi is great for reducing stress and  improving balance, strength, flexibility and mobility. According to the Mayo Clinic, "If you're looking for another way to reduce stress, consider Tai Chi. Tai Chi is sometimes described as "meditation in motion" because it promotes serenity through gentle movements - connecting the mind and body. A recent study shows that elders and people with chronic knee pain benefit from Tai Chi because it helps strengthen the muscles and ligaments of the legs. Tai Chi offers numerous benefits beyond stress reduction, including:
  • Reducing anxiety and depression
  • Improving balance, flexibility and muscle strength
  • Reducing falls in older adults
  • Improving sleep quality
  • Lowering blood pressure
  • Improving cardiovascular fitness in older adults
  • Relieving chronic pain
  • Increasing energy, endurance and agility
  • Improving overall feelings of well-being

New Hope member Adam Brown offers free Tai Chi classes from 9:00-9:30 a.m. here at New Hope. The sessions are open to all ages and no pre-registration is required.  Just put on something you can move comfortably in and join in.

Additional dates have been scheduled on November 6th and 13th  for you to get your picture taken for the church directory.  Check your calendar and sign up online or at the refreshment table.
Video Techs Needed

This "Tech" task is not so technical

Looking for a way to help out at church but don't like to be in the limelight?  Afraid this is a "technical" job and you're not very "techie"?  Then this would be a perfect opportunity for you.  The video tech job is a behind the scenes task and does NOT require a lot of technical know how.  The video techs are the ones who keep the info on the video screens moving and on pace with the service.  We'll provide the training, but basically all you need to do is follow the service and push a button a couple seconds before the screen changes.

We need more volunteers for both services.  If you think this is something you would be interested in contact the church office by email  or by phone at  964-0143

Stickers for Readers Needed

Bring Your Stickers - Put them in the "Sticker baskets" on the refreshment table.

Lindsay Bacher (Patti Bacher's daughter) is collecting stickers.  Her new position is with the Minnesota Reading Corps as the Corporate Volunteer Liaison and they have 675 members who read books with kids every day. The volunteers that read to the children give stickers to the students with whom they work.  Lindsay is asking if we can help her collect stickers of all shapes, sizes and colors for them to hand out.  So if you have any stickers laying around, or are at the store and see some you like, bring them in and we'll get them to Linz and her army of readers.  She and her new hubby, Andrew, plan to be here to worship with us on Oct. 31st so we can give them to her then.

John Wesley said...

"Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can."

...these readers certainly fit that mold when it comes to reading with these kids!
Trick or Treat at New Hope
October 30th  10 a.m. - noon

Bring your little ghosts and goblins trick or treating and make sure to stop by the church between 10 and noon on Saturday, October 30th.   New Hope is participating in the De Pere Chamber's annual event and children who stop in will have the opportunity to play a game, win a prize and get their picture taken.  The Chamber is sponsoring a list of participating businesses, including New Hope, so what a great opportunity for the community to come in and check us out.  If you're interested in helping with this fun afternoon event contact Jen Engel via email jenengel24@sbcglobal.net.
Collecting Items for Milwaukee Mission Trip
Bring in diapers, wipes, hygiene or men's clothing

Six youth and two adults are headed to Milwaukee to help at Milwaukee Children's Services the end of October.  We'll be leaving Thursday morning, Oct. 28th to work at their shelter for mothers and children, at the emergency food and clothing pantry, and also learn more about poverty and homelessness.

Our group is collecting diapers, baby wipes, feminine hygiene products and mens used clothing (in good condition) to take along to replenish their constant need for these items.  Please bring your items to New Hope before Wednesday, October 27th.
Scrip Program Needs Volunteers
Volunteer every week or occasionally

We are looking for volunteers to help either on a weekly or occasional basis for our Scrip program to raise funds for the ministries and programs here at New Hope Church.  Sheryl Mielke has volunteered to take leadership on this project and she'll need help!  We'll need people to collect and distribute the orders on Sundays from 10 - 10:30 a.m.  We will also need help early in the week to tally the orders and later in the week to fill them.  Please contact Patti if you are willing to help.

Scrip is "no-selling" fundraising that allows New Hope to raise money based on your everyday purchases.  Scrip is a term that means "substitute money" and when you purchase scrip through New Hope, you're purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, gas and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for our church.

The church buys the scrip at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value.  The discount - from two to fifteen percent or more -  is our organization's revenue which we will use to support programs and ministry right here at New Hope. This is a GREAT way for you to support our church!
