Greetings!

As I think ahead to this Memorial Day weekend I find myself bombarded with memories that touch both ends of the happiness scale.  I am saddened at the loss of my Grandma this past year, but happy when I think of her easy to invoke laughter.  I am soaring with joy as we celebrate my daughter's graduation, but it is tempered with both pride and sadness as I am reminded that she'll be leaving for two years in Honduras soon.  Suddenly it feels that Memorial Day isn't just about those who have already passed on to God's abundant life, but it's also about the events and people who have been in our lives and who have made us who we are today.

In the meantime, bring on the picnics as summer is officially here!

See you in church, I'll save you a seat!

Handwritten Prayer brings joy via snail mail

Gather your friends and join us at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2nd to make cards for this important outreach that we call 'Handwritten Prayer.'  We all love to get snail mail, real mail, fun mail!  We'll be creating pieces that you'll have the pleasure of sending to bring joy to others.   Bring your card making supplies or a $5 donation to defray the costs.

Connecting Couples & Adventure Group Head to Crystal River Canoe Trip
Fun for Father's Day weekend! - Saturday, June 19th

Crystal River Canoe Trip 2009Invite your friends and family to come with us on the Crystal River Canoe trip in Waupaca on June 19th.  The trip is a 3 hour adventure for ages 7 to adult.  Two people (and a smaller child) ride in a specially made canoe down the scenic river, which averages about 2.5 feet in depth.  It is fun and exciting to shoot the rapids and dodge the obstacles that you will encounter.  It even includes a very short portage!
  • Cost is $16 per person.
  • Meet at New Hope at 10:15 a.m. OR meet us at Dings Dock in Waupaca by 12:30 p.m.  (We will be in the 1:00 group)
  • Pack a lunch to eat before hitting the water and you may want to plan on eating dinner in the area afterward.
RSVP here or on the sign up sheet on the refreshment table.

Check it out online at www.dingsdock.com.

3rd Annual GETS Scholarship Ride
Scholarships are essential to ensuring future pastors for our churches!

A bicycle component is being added to the Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (GETS) Scholarship Ride which was originally all motorcycles.  The addition was based on feedback from people who love to ride on two wheels - two wheels with pedal power!  The ride will be Saturday, September 18th with the goal of raising money for seminary scholarships.

The motorcycles will be riding throughout Door and Kewanee counties, visiting United Methodist Churches along the way.  The bicycles will be riding between Egg Harbor and Jacksonport.  We will all meet (motorcycles and bicycles) for a short devotion in Jacksonport, and for lunch at the Egg Harbor United Methodist Church.

The purpose of the motorcycle and bicycle ride is to raise awareness of the need for scholarships as well as to raise scholarship money for our seminary students. Scholarships are essential to ensuring future pastors for our churches.

Do you like to bicycle? Do you like to motor cycle? Are you interested in supporting our future pastors? If the answer(s) are yes, please mark your calendar for Saturday, September 18th.

If you have any questions, please contact Dave or Diane Pietenpol (Ali Knight's parents) at 920-434-3619.  Watch for more details!
