Health Ministry's Activity Tree
|
|
We add another leaf on the activity tree every week! We've logged over 1000 miles so far! Way to go everyone! Way to get active!
Be sure to log your walking/running mileage (or the equivalent for other activity**) on the Health Ministries bulletin board this Sunday.
We want our tree to be in full bloom by May, so get busy and get active!
**Count 10 minutes of other activity as one mile.

Greetings!
We just finished our test call with Bulgaria and I'm excited! We will be sharing worship with our partners in Russe, Bulgaria via Skype at both the 9:00 and 10:30 worship services. If you haven't been at one of the shared services before, you will definitely want to be here! We'll be exchanging greetings, praying and singing in both languages. We'll be viewing their congregation on the big screen and hearing them live via the internet. Jeepers, I love technology!
Pastor Greg continues his sermon series, "Amazing Grace - Was Blind, But Now I See" this week with, "Can You See the Gifts God Has Placed in You?"
Like others with children in college, I have the pleasure of having my daughter, Kari, coming home for the weekend while she is on her spring break and that is certainly a great way to end this terrific sunny, melty week!
See you in church! Patti |

Wrapped In Prayer
|
|
New Prayer Ministry Emerges We are excited to have two prayer ministries emerge following our Praying In Color retreat and have been offering them on Wednesdays in March at 7:00 after the Lenten Worship service.
Anne Laes knits a shawl at the women's retreat.
 | The next session on Wednesday, March 24th is Wrapped in Prayer. You will hear about and experience the extensive ministry that has been wrapping both the creators and the recipients in a world of warmth and love. If you are a knitter - bring your things! We'll also have the chance to learn to "tie" a blanket. Join us!
Future meeting times will be determined based on participant availability.

| Tai Chi Class Starts Saturday, April 10th |
Great for Reducing Stress & Improving Balance
New Hope member Adam Brown will be offering free Tai Chi classes starting Saturday, April 10th at 9:00 a.m. here at New Hope. The sessions are open to all ages, and Adam would really like to make an impact with the 40, 50, 60+ year old members of the church because he sees that this could be a wonderful opportunity to help people gain strength, flexibility and mobility.
According to the Mayo Clinic, "If you're looking for another way to reduce stress, consider Tai Chi. Tai chi is sometimes described as "meditation in motion" because it promotes serenity through gentle movements - connecting the mind and body.
A recent study shows that elders and people with chronic knee pain benefit from Tai Chi because it helps strengthen the muscles and ligaments of the legs.
Tai Chi offers numerous benefits beyond stress reduction, including:
- Reducing anxiety and depression
- Improving balance, flexibility and muscle strength
- Reducing falls in older adults
- Improving sleep quality
- Lowering blood pressure
- Improving cardiovascular fitness in older adults
- Relieving chronic pain
- Increasing energy, endurance and agility
- Improving overall feelings of well-being
Adam Brown has been studying martial arts for more than 20 years and holds a 4th degree Black Belt in Korean Tae Kwon Do. He leads the Tae Kwon Do classes held at New Hope, teaches Philippines-based Eskrima, and is an apprentice instructor of Chinese Yang style Tai Chi Chuan. He has devoted his life to helping others develop better self esteem and improved focus and physical skills through martial arts training. For more information contact Patti. |
