New Hope Church Weekly E-News
January 22, 2010
Greetings!

This has been a very busy week at New Hope! Our Annual Charge Conference was held on Tuesday night, followed by a long range planning meeting for our staff, the Praying In Color Design Team is going full speed to be ready for the upcoming retreat, and that's in addition to all the 'regular stuff'!  Certainly keeps things interesting.

Pastor Greg's sermon this week will be, "The Tough Find Their Roots" based on Luke 4:14-21.  With everything else that's going on, I haven't yet caught wind of what he's developed on the topic, so I can't give you any hints this week gang, so you'll just have to be here to find out!

The retreat will be awesome and I'm really excited about the ideas we talked about in our planning session.  Lots of good things to come.

I'm off to visit friends out of state for a couple days so I'll see you soon!
Blessings,
Patti

LET US WALK (or run) WITH THE SPIRIT...
Galatians 5:25

New Hope's Heath Ministry encourages you to strive for 10,000 steps a day which is considered an active, healthy lifestyle.  To help motivate you, the Spring Challenge has begun!  When you come to the church, log the distance you've walked/run throughout the week on the bulletin board located outside the worship area.  (Conversion available for other forms of exercise.)  Every time we fill a sheet we'll add a leaf to the tree.  Let's see if we can make the tree full of leaves by May!  In addition, the Health Ministry will give a newly designed New Hope t-shirt (designed by the youth) to the first 20 individuals who show our Parish Nurse, Amy Powell, proof of registration to participate in a local 2010 run/walk event such as the Cellcom or the Bellin.  Join the fun and get fit!

Update on New Hope's Response to Haiti Disaster
Haiti Earthquake

New Hope will again take a special offering this Sunday to send to Haiti for disaster recovery following the earthquake earlier this week.  Checks can be made out to New Hope with Haiti noted on the comment line.

We will also be collecting Health Kits to send to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee On Relief) which is organized by our General Board of Global Missions (GBGM) in New York.  UMCOR is in country and are working to get assistance to the devastated areas.

We are sad to say that two leaders at GBGM, Rev. Sam Dixon and Rev. Clint Rabb, who I personally have gone in mission with, have both died from injuries sustained in the earthquake.  This is a big loss to the organization and they will be greatly missed.

GBGM is in the process of organizing teams to go to Haiti.  New Hope and Russe are looking into the prospects of a joint mission to Haiti in the future, so if this is something you are interested in, please let me know.  I'm not sure of the timeframe yet, although I'm sure UMCOR and VIM teams will be there for years to come helping with the aftermath.
