Greetings!
Good luck to all of you participating in the Green Bay Marathon or Half-Marathon this weekend. Courtesy of Active.com, here are some key tips for your final week of taper:
- Maintain the intensity of your training, even though you've decreased your mileage.
- Your body still needs calories, even though you aren't running as much. Try to cut down on empty calories (soda & sweets).
- Boost your carbohydrate intake, but only for the last few days before the race. Not more calories, just a higher percentage of carbs.
- Use all your new free time to catch up on a project that was put on the back burner during your training. It'll keep you preoccupied & your mind off the anxiety-provoking things like weather (that you can't control).
- Don't change anything at the last minute. Save experiments with new products, running form, etc. for the next series of training.
- A lot of unnecessary energy can be expended in the form of panic and uncertainty...so avoid it. Know where you need to go, what you need to bring, how you will get there, and any other key logistics.
- Visualization works.Mentally prepare for the "what ifs" but also visualize a great start, great water station stops, a great finish.
Bottom line: You can't cram for this final. You've put in the hard work, now go enjoy the race! The money is in the bank, time for a big withdrawal.
