Greetings!

Well hellooo Summer! We were expecting you, but not with such a dramatic entrance. And so soon. Perhaps you could have thought to announce your arrival? Ah, but here you are and you're a welcome guest just in time for some holiday festivities...

Fleet Feet Sports will be closed on Monday, May 31 in honor of all those who have served. No reason, though, why we can't still celebrate with a Memorial Day Weekend Poppy Sale!

Poppies? Moina Michael, a U.S. professor and humanitarian, conceived the idea of using poppies as a symbol of remembrance for those who served in World War I.

In tribute to the opening lines of Canadian John McCrae's battlefront-theme poem "In Flanders Fields" --"In Flanders fields the poppies blow / Between the crosses row on row," -- many now wear a red poppy as a symbol of remembrance for those who served in the war.

Cheers!

Training Tips: Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Don't be Beat by the Heat!

65-70% of the human body is made of water.

Fluid is responsible for keeping your body temperature regulated, blood volume correct, ridding your body of waste products, maintaining blood pressure and so much more.

Follow these simple guidelines to insure your body is functioning at its best:

  • Drink when thirsty. All day, every day!

  • Drink before you walk/run. Top off your tank with 8 ounces (1 cup) 30 to 60 minutes of beginning your exercise session.

  • Carry fluid with you. Bring along a bottle and drink 4 ounces every 15 minutes.

  • Water is fine for workouts up to 60 minutes. Longer workouts require a sports drink to replace lost electrolytes.

  • To determine your specific fluid needs during exercise, weigh yourself before and after your workout. Every pound you lose during your workout equates to 2 cups of fluid lost.

  • Drink 16-20 ounces of fluid while you cool down.

  • Be aware of climate changes. Heat, changes in humidity, or altitude will require more fluid than usual.

  • Know the signs of dehydration: nausea after exercise, dark yellow urine, dry/sticky mouth, headaches and dizziness.

Product Spotlight--Play it Safe
Summer can be great fun assuming you stay safe in the heat.
These important training products will keep you out enjoying your workouts!

All Terrain Suncreen

If you are heading outdoors, you will be exposed to the sun. Sunscreen with UVA/UVB sun protection is a must if you want to avoid the risk of cancer and other health problems.

All Terrain's biodegradable sun protection products are designed to protect your skin naturally. We carry TerraSport, AquaSport, KidSport for ALL your sporting needs!

Nuun Hydration

Nuun is a portable replacement drink that gives your body the four essential electrolytes it needs--sodium, potassium, magnesium & calcium--without the sugar of some other sports drinks. It's used by anyone trying to stay hydrated; walkers, runners, cyclists, triathletes, hikers, yoga-bods, and travelers.

It's also portable! Just drop a Nuun tablet into your water bottle, store the tube in your pocket & you're ready to go.

Tifosi Eyewear

Taking care of your eyes should be a top concern no matter the time of the year, but especially during the hot summer months of June, July and August.

Prolonged exposure to UVA and UVB rays can cause just as much damage for our eyes as it can for our skin. And once it occurs, it cannot be reversed. Significant eye damage, including temporary discomfort to long-term vision problems such as cataracts, may result.

Sunglasses provide one of the best sources of UV protection. All Tifosi Optics lenses offer 100% UVA and UVB protection. Stop in and check out our assortment of popular styles.
