I Have a Dream
August 28, 1963 - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his
famous "I Have a Dream" speech at the Lincoln Memorial to civil rights
demonstrators. The speech, considered to be one of the greatest in history, was
originally titled "Normalcy, Never Again." Toward the end of
the speech, gospel singer Mahalia Jackson shouted to Dr. King from
the crowd, "Tell them about the dream, Martin." Dr. King stopped
delivering his prepared remarks and started preaching, punctuating his points
with "I have a dream," giving root to its new name.

"Unsinkable" Wreckage
September 1, 1985 - A joint American/French expedition
located the wreck of the Titanic, 370 miles off the coast of Newfoundland at
GPS 41.73194°N 49.94583°W. One of the most notable
discoveries the team made was that the ship had split apart while sinking, with the
stern section lying 1,970 feet from the bow section and facing the opposite
direction. There had been conflicting witness accounts of whether the ship
broke apart or not. Up until the discovery of the wreck, it was generally
assumed that the ship did not break apart.
