 Quicktionary Reading Pen
The Quicktionary II Reading Pen is a hand-held, pen shaped, high resolution scanner with advanced text-to-speech-technology. It functions as an educational tool, providing "assistive technology" to people with reading difficulties. Unlike PC-based high-tech reading aides, this pen is completely portable and enables user to see and hear the scanned text.
Scanned words are displayed and are clearly pronounced - automatically or at the click of a button. The built-in loudspeaker and earphone jack enable external and private listening. The definition and syllabic breakdown of the word can be viewed at the push of a button.
It contains over 200,000 definitions, and recognizes over 400,000 words, including inflected nouns and verbs. It provides parts of speech, alternative spellings and examples of usage. If you are in need of help with reading and could be helped by this pen, contact us at 1-800-390-3681 or info@accessnorth.net.

Greetings! Happy February to all! I hope that this winter has treated you well, I know that we are pretty happy around here with the mild temps and little amounts of snow. Looks like that may be changing soon - I hope not too much! Even though it's still winter, we haven't slowed down around here in getting our offices up and running so that we are able to serve our current consumers better - as well as expand out in other areas that are being underserved. We are in our new Grand Rapids office and have hired new staff to serve the area. We have spotlighted the new Rapids office in this month's edition. You can also see the progress we are making on the new main office in Hibbing. It has been slow going so far, but now that the studwork is up for the new rooms, things are progressing nicely. Our Brainerd office is also busy getting new groups together to meet in their new space as well. All staff has been working hard coming up with new ideas to fill the needs in their particular region. I hope you enjoy reading through and learning more about our offices and services in this month's edition of the Newsletter. Please contact us if you need more information or have a question.
Sincerely,
Kim Tyler Executive Director |

Meet our new Independent Living Specialist in Grand Rapids ...
Peter Strassburg
My Name is Peter Strassburg I am a 49 year old Grand Rapids resident. I was born in Bemidji, but grew up in Hibbing, MN. I left MN shortly after graduating and did a 15 year tour on the east coast in the Washington, DC/Baltimore, MD area, in which I worked commercial and industrial construction with some overseas experience in Kazakhstan, Russia and the Bahamas. After having a life changing experience in 1996, I returned to Hibbing. What was supposed to be a short visit turned into a permanent stay when my Grandfather passed away after a debilitating stroke. I started a residential construction company doing roofing and remodeling. In late 1999 I met a beautiful and incredible lady who quickly became my best friend and on July 21, 2000 we married. We moved to Grand Rapids the same year and became Assistant Managers of River South Apartments and I also worked at Northland Recovery. It was there I started my journey in the Human Service field. I attended Itasca Community College where I received my AA and an A.S. in Applied Psychology. On Valentine's Day 2005 we closed on our first home, making Minnesota more permanent than we expected; love the seasons hate the cold. My wife and I became a Licensed Foster Home and Kootasca Crisis Nursery provider. It was then we met and later adopted our son Robert Strassburg who is now sixteen. I then went on to Bemidji State University where I graduated in 2010 with my Bachelors of Science as a Licensed Social Worker. With the current economy it has been difficult finding employment in the Grand Rapids area. I was working in Adult Foster Care at Range Mental Health in Hibbing and Residential Living Solutions in Grand Rapids when my current position as an Independent Living Specialist opened at the new Grand Rapids office. I am extremely excited and feel very blessed with the opportunity to serve our area as an IL Specialist and look forward to a long career with Access North CILNM. Welcome, Peter! He can be reached at 218-326-5183 or peter@accessnorth.net

A Warning ... Not only to parents with teenagers and young adult children, but to all adults themselves! This article recently ran in the Star Tribune. These are seemingly innocent household items, such as bath salts, plant food and incense. Some of these items are sold very close to our offices. Please click on this link and read the whole story .... Then talk to your loved ones about the dangers of these substances! This is dangerous stuff!
