Auntie Wooly Says:
Dahlings! I'm looking forward to seeing you all this October, but I also wanted to mention an event in November. From November 1 through the 4th those nice young folks from the shop will be at Interweave Knitting Lab in San Mateo, CA.
Knitting Lab is an amazing event with intensive classes and a small, very high quality vendor area. So if you're in the area, stop by and say hello. They're bound to have something exciting to share with you.
Oh, and here's a free pattern for you using 1 skein of Noro Shiraito! Quick, fun, and easy to knit, you'll make a million of them! Perfect for that special gift. Until next time... Happy Stitching, My Dears! Auntie W.

Pagewood Farm Visits!
Labor day weekend in Cambria means Pinedorado Days, three days of fun, parades, music, and in our case, fiber! Once again, our good friends from Pagewood Farm are joining us for a weekend of fun and fiber.
On Saturday September 1, Robin Page will be here showing off her latest and most exciting yarns and fibers. She always has surprises for us and is sure to delight you all with her incredible colors and her fun approach to all things fiber. With our additon of beautiful hand-turned drop-spindles, we're bound to see some wonderful spinning techniques as well. The fun continues on Sunday the 2nd when Lucy from Pagewood will be here helping us all to learn about these amazing products that are so unique in the industry. Stop by, have some fun, and meet one of our favorite suppliers.
Happy Stitching!

Audrey Knight Workshop!
Come spend an evening with local author and designer Audrey Knight as we celebrate the release of her new book "Reversible Scarves"!
We waited a long time for the book, and it's finally here! On Saturday September 15 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM, Audrey will teach a 2-hour class on techniques from the book. During the class, you'll learn how best to create a reversible piece. In addition, you'll start making a scarf like the ones in the book! Audrey will also be signing copies of her new book, available here at the Ball & Skein. Click here for all the details on this fantastic opportunity to learn from the author of this exciting new knitting book!
In addition, we'll have a trunk show of the scarves made from the book in the shop the week prior to the class!

Sandra McIver Book Signing!
Not only did we have an amazing trunk show of garments from the #1 knitting book in the country, we're pleased to announce Sandra McIver, author of "Knit, Swirl" will be in the shop on Friday, September 21 from 2PM till 5PM, or whenever we can get away! Meet Sandra, have her sign your book, and talk with her about your interests in these amazing, unique, one seam designs!

October and beyond October means Scarecrow Festival! For the whole month of October, Cambria will be host to the most amazing collection of scarecrows you've ever seen. Last year we had over 200 and they say this year could be even bigger. That means, of course, the return of Auntie Wooly! We're so excited about her new jacket. If you haven't gotten your squares in, there's still time! Take that old stash you need to get rid of and work up a square. No color to wild, no square too odd for our Auntie!
October also brings us the Manos del Uruguay Trunk show. From the 4th through the 14th, come see the latest designs from our friends at Manos. We were so impressed by the latest pieces, we're frantically knitting them for ourselves. Come see them, choose a pattern, then choose a color! As you know, we stock every yarn they make in every one of their amazing colors!
Oh yes, October 12th through the 14th is also Harvest Fest at the Cambria Historical Society, where our own Oz Barron will be Master of Ceremonies. Music, fun, food, and a talent show on Sunday. A fun time for all!

Small Business Fun Facts
We're a locally owned, brick and mortar small business. We have a belief that small business is the backbone of the US. We hear a lot about all the 'big guys', Apple, Bank of America, Home Depot, but we don't hear a lot about us, the small business owners of America. Here are some interesting things you may or may not know about us. These statistics are from the US Dept of Commerce and the SBA.
There are over 27 million small businesses in the United States. 60% to 80% of all new jobs are created by small business. Small businesses employ 54.4 million people, about 35 percent of the total workforce both public and private. Small businesses are responsible for over 30% of all US payroll.
We are the job creators. We employ over half of the nations private workers and over 1/3 of all US workers. We, through your support, are the economic engine of this country. We are the ones supporting the local school fund raiser, the local Woman's shelter, the local American Legion and so many other local charities and community organizations. We work hard, do our best to support our community and the people that work with us, and most importantly the wonderful people that visit us and support us through their purchases and referrals. We're always grateful for every person that chooses to support a small independently owned business as opposed to a large chain or on-line only store.

Thank You
Words fail us, frankly. We have so many things going on that we can easily lose sight of why we do this. Then we hear a story about how we introduced someone to knitting or crochet, how we introduced them to a new technique or a yarn that was easier for them to work with, and it reminds us of all th ewonderful people we have the great good fortune of meeting every day. Thank you so much, from all of us here at the Ball & Skein & More.
