Auntie Wooly Says:
Dahlings! We'd like to extend a HUGE thank you to all the people that have helped make the build-out and transition as stress-free as possible. There are so many that have helped and pitched in, but there are a couple of folks we'd like to mention.
Our Flooring came from Sheperd's Carpet's here in Cambria. They're at (805) 927-4756 Painting was Tom Johnson also in Cambria. He's at (805) 927-8401 And our biggest thanks goes to Paul Ferreira, (805) 927-1942. Originally from Rhode Island, Paul's been in Cambria for years. His attention to detail and professionalism kept the project moving along, on time and in budget.
If you find yourself needing construction or remodeling services in the area, we strongly recommend these fine folks! Until next time... Happy Stitching, My Dears! Auntie W.

The 34-year Sweater
We all know the stories of those projects we want to finish but for one reason or another we just don't complete them. Well, after 34 years we're 'binding off' from our Burton Drive address and 'casting on' a new project at 4210 Bridge Street.
Day one at the new location is Wednesday May 16 at 10AM!
Yes, the Ball & Skein is moving. We need the room and our new location has almost three times the space. It's conveniently located right around the corner from the old location, right on Main Street. We're at the corner of Bridge and Main next door to Wildwood, across the street from The Place, Las Cambritas, and Wild Ginger. There is a parking lot at the shop as well as plenty of on-street parking in the neighborhood. Our entrance is right on Main Street.
We did an extensive remodel of the space, installing beautiful wood floors, new paint, as well as new fixtures and shelves. We're also bringing in even more new items for all fiber fans.
Our schedule is to 'Bind-off' from Burton Dr on Tuesday May 15 and 'Cast-on' at Bridge St on Wednesday May 16. While we will be unable to do business on the 15th due to the move, we'll be open for Business on the 16th at 10AM as usual. We can promise it will be a little chaotic, but we'll be there with open doors and lots of yarny goodness.
Stop by when you can, we'd love to show you our new home!

Coral Reefs! Have you heard about the Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef (HCCR) from the Institute for Figuring? Well, now you have!
The HCCR is a project that resides at the intersection of mathematics, marine biology, handicraft and community art practice, and also responds to the environmental crisis of global warming and the escalating problem of oceanic plastic trash. It has been exhibited in art and science museums worldwide, including the Andy Warhol Museum (Pittsburgh), The Hayward (London), the Science Gallery (Dublin), and the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History (Washington D.C.) Seen by more than three million people, the HCCR is one of the largest participatory science + art projects in the world.
We've started on creating sea creatures from the patterns (almost all free!) at crochetcoralreef.org as well as the book "75 Shells, Corals & Sea Creatures to Knit & Crochet", and we're just having so much fun. We'd love to have you join us in creating our own seascape here in Cambria. Any yarn and any sea creature will be more than welcome. We'll display them in the shop along with the names of all the participants, unless you'd rather us not display your name, of course.
Happy Stitching!

Trouble with a Pattern?
So many times we struggle with a pattern trying to figure out what the designer means. Sometimes we may even wonder if there's an error in the pattern. Pattern designers do their best but it's not always easy to translate knitting into a pattern. We'd like to offer a simple 'trick' we use that may be of assistance for these difficult situations. Whenever we get a pattern that seems confusing to us we write out each and every stitch. It never ceases to amaze us how often this technique clears up any errors we may have made in understanding the pattern. It can also point out areas of the pattern that may have a mistake in it. We would also suggest looking on line to see if there is an 'errata' for that book or pattern. Hope this helps decrease future frustrations!
