Auntie Wooly Says:
Auntie Wooly
Dahlings!

What a fun time we're having in Cambria this month with the Scarecrow Fest and Harvest Fest! As a matter of fact, your Auntie Wooly tied for "Best Representing Venue - Adult"! We couldn't have been more proud.

A HUGE thank you to everyone that helped out, and if you haven't seen all the scarecrows, it's truley amazing, there's over 200 of them all over town!

ToteReady to expand your knitting horizons?
Yes, we mentioned it last time as well, but it's so exciting it bears repeating as we don't want you to miss out on a fun filled weekend!
Join us Friday March 16 through Sunday March 18 for a very special weekend here in Cambria featured nationally recognized author and instructor Gwen Bortner! For this fun-filled weekend Gwen has created a class she calls "Tons of Techniques Tote" that will bring your knitting to a new level!

In this class, you'll create a stylish purse and get a taste of a wide range of knitting techniques and skills.  With nearly twenty different topics, there is something for knitters of many levels.  Students knit nearly the entire time so as you learn a technique you  immediately try it on a real project.  Multiple options are provided for several components of the bag resulting in a customized project for each student.  We don't expect you to be an expert knitter. To get the most out of the class, you should be very comfortable with knit & purl and reading patterns. If you are unsure, check with us.

Bring a non-knitter as well as we'll be staying at the beautiful Cambria Pines Lodge and we'll have things for them to do as well, if they want. Your fee will include all meals, room, instruction, as well as a fun dinner event Saturday evening!

Thanks again, and we really hope you can join us!
2 We Turn 2!
Yes, the shop has been around for over 30 years, but this October 31 we're also celebrating The 2nd Anniversary of the re-opening of the Ball & Skein & More. It's hard to believe in so many respects. A big move from Boston to a small community on the coast of California, re-opening a long revered and storied place, getting to know so many new people, it's been a whirlwind of activity! In two short years we've grown to feel truly a part of a vibrant and exciting community.

We're grateful for each and every person that comes in the store. We love hearing the stories of the years gone past and seeing all the fun projects everyone works on. It's been gratifying to see people return time and again to share some time with us and to be able to help people anyway that we can.

Over the last 2 years, the store has grown to carry the 'best of the best' from over 70 different manufacturers and more importantly, to be a part of your fiber experience.

We're so overwhelmed by the good wishes and wonderful support from so many for our little shop in our quiet corner of California we tried to think of how we can, in some small way, give back to a community that has been so good to us.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. So to recognize that, and to try to help in a small way, we're donating 25% of all sales on October 31 to the North County Women's Shelter. Since 1982, they have been serving the needs of women and children affected by issues of domestic violence. So, we're urging you to help us raise as much money as possible on Monday October 31, and yes, that includes internet sales!

Thanks again for a wonderful two years, and we hope to see you for the next 30+!

Magicians Scarf Interweave Knitting Lab
If you've been in the shop, you may have seen some of the lovely yarns from our friends at Alchemy Yarns. We're pleased to say we'll be showcasing Alchemy as well as Laurel Hill knitting and crochet tools at the upcoming Interweave Knitting Lab in San Mateo!

If you're in the San Mateo area November 3 to 6, please stop by and say hello! Yes, the shop will be open as usual!

Clasica Cambria Curly Brim Hat
We don't have a picture of the pattern, but this is an adorable hat you can make quickly with one skein of Manos Clasica or Colinette Calligraphy. (We don't have the Calligraphy yarn on the site yet, but give us a call!) Knit it up, if you don't like it, we'll refund the price of the pattern!

Web Site and E-Commerce Feedback
Have you been to our (newly updated) web site, or our e-commerce site? What do you think? Anything we should know about? Any suggestions? If you wish, please send us a note with any comments you may have.

Thanks!

Thank You
The time has flown by. It's becoming more difficult to imagine that it's only been two years since we re-opened the Ball & Skein. Since then, it's been a flurry of activity. From meeting new people, finding new yarns, learning how to drive on these twisty mountain roads, and discovering how wonderful it really is to live on California's Central Coast, it's been a modern day adventure. We're grateful you have chosen to be a part of this community.
Thank you so much, from all of us here at the Ball & Skein & More.
