Auntie Wooly Says:
Dahlings! I miss my friends in Cambria, so I'm making my plans to return to see you all in the fall, just in time for the Harvest Festival over Columbus Day Weekend! The month of October is a lot of fun in Cambria as there will also be hundreds of scarecrows all over town made by so many creative people. It's certainly worth the trip! For more information, please click here visit the web site dedicated to the festival. Till next time, Happy Stitching! Auntie W.

Pinedorado Parade!
For the past 63 years, Labor day weekend in Cambria has meant Pinedorado days, which always kicks off on Saturday with the Pinedorado Parade. This year, for the first time ever, the Ball & Skein & More will be in the parade, and we want YOU to join us! The parade steps off at 9:30 AM on Saturday September 3rd in the East Village (Near the shop!). We'll not only be 'marching' we'll also have a small flatbed so some folks can also ride the route! We'll also be joined by our dear friends from Pagewood Farms who will be knitting and spinning along the route! Spinners, bring a Drop Spindle, or let us know if you want to bring your wheel. Are you a weaver? Bring a portable loom! It doesn't matter if you can actually knit or crochet, we just want people to show up and have some fun! All ages are MORE than welcome! Not a knitter, a crocheter, a spinner, a weaver? Doesn't matter - join us and wave some fiber around with us! The theme this year is musical, so bring an instrument if you'd like! The idea is to have fun!
Everyone that participates will get knitting needles OR a crochet hook as well as some yarn!
Here's what we'd love for you to do if you think you'd like to participate. Please send us an email at info@cambriayarn.com with the words Pinedorado in the Subject. Also let us know if you want knitting needles or a crochet hook. Also, please let us know if you need to ride the route, which is about 1.5 miles long. There will be many ways to get back to the shop after the parade, including a lovely walk. We'd love to have an idea of how many folks are coming so we can have enough supplies for everyone.
Our plan, so far, is to meet at the shop at 8:30, talk about logistics, then get ready to have some Fiber Fun! For more information about Pinedorado Days, click here!
Thanks again, and we really hope you can join us! |

Pagewood Farms Our friends from California's own Pagewood Farms will be in the shop all day (after the parade of course) on Saturday September 3rd doing demonstrations of their yarns, spinning, as well as needle felting. They were in last year as well, and we had so much fun! Come meet them and see some of the most unique and fun yarns California has to offer! So after the parade, please stop by and say hello! We're also hoping to entice them to stay into Sunday as well - so stay tuned!

Rosewood Needles
We often get asked why we don't stock rosewood needles. For single point needles, we stock Brittany's in sustainably harvested birch and Laurel Hill needles, which are made from Forest Palmwood, a renewable resource that come in round, triangular, as well as four-sided. As much as we love the look and feel of rosewood, it's a wood that has been so over-exploited that it is a CITES-listed endangered species. The rosewood supply and its exploitation has long been an issue in the musical instrument industry with most companies no longer using true rosewood in their instruments.
Perhaps that we're in Cambria, one of three Monterey Pine forests left in the world, which makes us more sensitive to the issue. In any event, while we may all love the look and feel of rosewood we feel the cost to the ecosystem simply too high to justify its use, especially as we have so many other alternatives for high quality, beautiful stitching tools.

Crochet!
We love our crocheters. Although there are not as many resources available for crochet as for knitting, we do our best to bring in as much as we can to support our crochet friends. We stock books, patterns, and of course, some wonderful crochet hooks from Laurel Hill and Addi. We encourage knitters to learn crochet as it's great for edging as well as embellishments. Crochet does take on average about 30% more yarn for a similar sized project when compared to knitting, but many feel the trade off in yarn usage is offset by the fabric that it creates. Crochet is also very popular for Amigurami , which is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. Our free pattern this newsletter is for the crocheters out there. It's a simple hat and scarf pattern. We used O-Wool Legacy DK , an American made DK weight Merino yarn, and a "K" hook, which is the equivalent of a US 10.5 knitting needle. Click here to download the pattern . (No pictures of the pattern yet, sorry!) Stay tuned to our Facebook Page (Feel free to 'Like' us!), our Ravelry Page, or this newsletter for all the latest news and upcoming special events, including the Scarecrow Festival in October, the Return of Auntie Wooly, and even more special events!
