Colinette Giotto From Colinette, a wonderful hand dye company in Wales, we have Giotto, a cotton based tape that is so beautiful and easy to knit with. We just used one skein on US 11s and a seed stitch to make a fun, quick to knit scarf for our cool summer evenings. We also have the AbFab kits and Jitterbug sock yarn!

Cotton
For at least 8000 years, people have been cultivating cotton. Cotton is also the most widely used natural fiber in textiles. China and India are the largest producers of cotton in the world, but the US is the worlds largest exporter! Cotton is soft, breathable, and lends itself to a wide variety of applications. It has no memory, the 'spring' that makes wool so nice to stitch with, so some find it tiring to work with for long stretches. That said, it's hard to beat cotton, or a cotton blend, for cover-ups, soft tops, so many other things.
Cotton takes dye differently than wool so they tend to be a little more muted. Doesn't mean it's not beautiful, just different. To see how the fiber takes color differently, look at O-Wool Balance or Alchemy Kozmos to see the natural heathering due to the cotton content. The term Egyptian cotton refers to the extra long staple cotton grown in Egypt and favored for the luxury and upmarket brands worldwide. Egyptian cotton is more durable and softer than American Pima cotton, which is why it is more expensive. Pima cotton is American cotton that is grown in the southwestern states of the U.S.
