Baker Testifies Before Maryland House Appropriations Subcommittee About MOU for New Regional Medical Center
On January 19, County Executive Rushern L. Baker III testified before the Maryland House of Delegates Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services about the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to build a new regional medical center in Prince George's County.
A partnership agreement was announced on July 19, 2011 between Prince George's County, the State of Maryland, University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), University System of Maryland (USM) and Dimensions Healthcare System for developing a comprehensive plan for strengthening health care in Prince George's County.
Baker stated that the MOU is an 18-month process that is divided into three steps: Development of a Strategic Plan (development of an ambulatory care or outpatient strategy, determination of size of the new RMC, and assessment of physician resources in the County); Cost Projections and Agreement on Cost Sharing (project construction cost and how the cost will be shared among the parties involved); and Execution of the Strategic Plan (site selection, architectural design, and submission of the Certificate of Need for the RMC).
"From an economic development perspective, a new RMC would have both a direct and indirect impact on economic activity in the county and it would bolster our efforts to create jobs and expand our commercial tax base," said Baker.
