February 2012
We Changed Our Name!CAC Logo 2012

CAC was founded 25 years ago, and it took much concerted action to get the community to rally to help those less fortunate around us. That action is still ongoing and has been providing compassionate assistance to our neighbors in need for 25 years. So to commemorate CAC's 25 years of service, we officially changed our name from Community Action Center to Community Assistance Center to better reflect who we are and what we do.
Celebrate CAC Day!

We're celebrating CAC's 25th anniversary year with the first annual CAC Day, Saturday, February 25! Join us in marking 25 years of helping neighbors in need by supporting the local businesses that support us. On Saturday, February 25, shop and dine at participating businesses and restaurants and they will donate a portion of their proceeds for that day to CAC! Check our website for a list of supporting businesses or look for the red CAC sign at participating establishments in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody. The city of Sandy Springs officially proclaimed Saturday, February 25 as CAC Day. CAC appreciates support from all of the area businesses and individuals who make Sandy Springs and Dunwoody the cities that care for their neighbors in need.

Remodeled Food Pantry/Donation Area

North Atlanta Men's Club
North Atlanta Men's Club volunteers did much of the work.

With the help of many hands and generous donations CAC now has a newly remodeled food pantry and donation sorting area. We now have more space for both food and donations and better work areas for the volunteers. The large remodel project happened in a short time, providing minimal disruption of food services to clients. Thanks to the dozens of individual volunteers, group volunteers and donors who made the project possible to including InterfaceFlor, SF storefloors, CMH Space Flooring Products, Extra Wish grant from Community Foundation, Van & Susan Westmoreland, North Atlanta Men's Club, Temple Sinai, North Atlanta Church of Christ and MOPS of Dunwoody United Methodist Church.

Small Congregation, Big Hearts

St. Andrews food donation
CAC has 28 member congregations of all faiths and sizes, and the Church of St. Andrew in Sandy Springs, while a very small congregation, continues to make a big difference. Every month the congregation donates food to CAC. But after seeing a recent story about a very big donation from a large fellow congregation, they wanted to make a big donation of their own and brought two trailer loads of food, fresh produce and paper products worth $3000!
