We Asked and You Gave to 800 Kids

adopt-a-familyThe 2011 Adopt-a-Family holiday program at CAC was a great success thanks to hundreds of donors who "adopted," shopped and wrapped gifts for children. All of our 800 children from 355 local families were adopted through CAC's annual program. And more than 500 families received holiday food baskets and grocery store gift cards.
A special thanks to our regular volunteers and volunteer groups and donors to the holiday programs including:
Body Fitz, Sandy Springs Rotary, North Atlanta Church of Christ, Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church, Apostles Church of Sandy Springs, Rivercliff Lutheran and the Shumard Family.

DUMC Gives Offering Gift to CAC
DUMC check
DUMC Sr. Pastor Dr. Wiley Stephens, left, presents a check to CAC Board President Bob Levinson, board members Joan Gill Redmond and Judy Lehmann, and
CAC development associate Pam Jones.
Members of Dunwoody United Methodist Church collected $30,935.08 at their Christmas Eve services and donated all of it to CAC. The offerings from 5 services were made mostly in small amounts by the more than 5,000 members in attendance.

"The response was greater than what we typically see on Christmas Eve and I think it's because people love and trust CAC," said Dr. Wiley Stephens, Senior Pastor at DUMC.

The offering donation was planned in advance and promoted by DUMC. They produced a touching video about the work that CAC does helping neighbors in need and played it at their Christmas Eve services. DUMC is one of CAC's original founding congregations and its members are actively involved at CAC as volunteers and on the board of directors.

"We have a long-standing commitment to CAC, so the decision to give the offering to CAC seemed like the obvious thing to do," said Stephens.

A Community That Cares

TC

I am honored to receive the Sandy Springs Humanitarian Award for 2012, not because I deserve it but because everyone involved with CAC does.

Twenty years ago I arrived in Atlanta and discovered CAC. I recognized this as a community that cares for the needs of their neighbors, and as a community that I wanted to participate in.

Every day I witness the meaning of dedication from the volunteers who toil daily, and generosity from those who provide the resources. I have seen individuals, organizations and political leaders rally together to make a better life for all. And I've seen those who seek assistance become self-sufficient and return to CAC to help.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of CAC. In 25 years CAC has touched over 15,000 families in our community. This is humanitarian work at its best!

I'm honored to be in the company of all those whose lives are my inspiration, those who make this humanitarian work happen and that includes everyone involved with CAC.

In Service,

Tamara Carrera
CAC Executive Director
