Giving Kids a Good Start

boy with back packFrom individual donors to group drives, donations from Sandy Springs and Dunwoody communities are helping CAC to provide more than 500 local children in need with new back packs filled with school supplies for the start of school. This is double the amount of children we assisted last year.

Your donations not only give these children the tools they need to learn, but also give them the dignity of being prepared like their fellow classmates.

About $50 buys a new back pack and required supplies. A list of needed school supplies is available on the CAC website.  Make donations at CAC, 1130 Hightower Trail, Sandy Springs, M-F 10am-4pm or call to arrange a time (770) 552-4889.

united wayWe are pleased to announce that CAC has once again been awarded grants from the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta and Fulton County Department Fulton Countyof Human Services. In a time when grant funds are down, CAC's awards were increased due to the positive results the center is producing in our community. CAC is one of  126 nonprofit organizations across metro-Atlanta awarded United Way grants for fiscal year 2011-2012 from the Community Impact Fund.

Mindy emigrated to the US from Africa in search of a better life. She married and had 3 children and works as an assistant nurse. A friend told her about CAC and the summer camp program for children. She was able to enroll her children, giving them experiences they otherwise wouldn't have had. Her oldest son, a high school student, went to an overnight camp for a week. Her other two children went to a day camp. Her oldest son then spent the rest of his summer interning at CAC. "It's a good experience for him, he's enjoying it and I'm glad he's helping somewhere," she said. Mindy also discovered CAC has programs for her, too. She soon enrolled in the Adult Education program and completed the Citizenship Preparation course. She plans to take the U.S. citizenship test later this year. "Its a wonderful agency, now I'm telling people that they can go to CAC to learn English and computers and get ready for their citizenship test. I think it is great!"
Sept. is Hunger Awareness Monthchild eating
September is Hunger Awareness Month and the CAC Food Pantry needs your help in filling the empty shelves. Right here in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody there are families and individuals who need help with putting food on the table. So far in 2011 the CAC Food Pantry is receiving a record-high average of 950 visits per month. You can help your neighbors in need. Donate a bag of groceries or hold a food drive at your office with your congregation or civic groups.
