July 15 Black & White Exhibition Opening Reception

Please join us for the opening reception of  "Black & White" on Thursday, July 15th, from 5 - 7 pm in the AAWS gallery.  This reception is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.
 
About the show: Black on White? Black or White? The intrigue of black and white is nearly transcendent.  From the romance of an old photograph to the stark contemporary, these two colors both oppose and complement. Come see how the colors Black and White have inspired our artists!  This all-member show will feature Black and White artwork, in a variety of media, created by Associated Artist members.   SHOW DATES: July 15 - August 27, 2010.

  • Black & White means... black and white (and shades of gray)... no other colors will be accepted. Have fun!!
 
July 16   Artist Workshop: Carl Galie presents "Shoot Your Art Right"
 
This two hour workshop, presented by photographer Carl Galie, will help artists learn how to photograph artwork and prepare files to create quality digital submissions.
 
When: Friday, July 16, 10am-12pm @ AAWS
Cost: $12 AAWS members, $15 non-members

a landscape photographer and juried AAWS member who resides in Winston-Salem, N.C.  His work has been published by the University of North Carolina Press, Outside Magazine, Ducks Unlimited magazine, and Backpacker magazine. Georgia Pacific Corporation used his photography in a national ad campaign to promote their Proterra line of recycled paper. The Sierra Club, Audubon, and BrownTrout Publishing have also used his images in their calendars.

July 16   Amani Bead Night
 
Love to bead?  Then Amani Bead Night is for you!  The beads we will be using are hand-made by artisans in Africa, and this event will help raise money for the Amani Children's Foundation and their work to improve the lives of children in Africa. 
 
When: Fri, July 16, 6-8pm @ AAWS
Amani NecklaceCost & Details: Groups welcome. Open to any age. No charge to attend.  Purchase beads to use for your own creative fashionable jewelry.  Prices are per bead ($3- and up). Bring your own beads to complement, embellish (or trade/share!). Earring wires available to purchase separately.  We'll supply the cord and offer simple how-to's, as well as a few snacks.

July 31   Artist Workshop: "How Do I Use This Thing?!" with Benita Van Winkle
 
When: Satrurday, July 31, 10am-12pm at AAWS
What: If you're like most of us, you have a great little digital camera that you use primarily for snapshots. You also know that your camera can do more, but all those dials and buttons just make you glaze over. But never fear... We've got help on the way!
 
Award-winning photographer and teacher Benita Van Winkle gives instruction on how to use all the bells and whistles on your digital camera. From easy lighting tips to actual controls, you will leave feeling capable and inspired. (and who knows-maybe your next show entry will be a photograph!) 
 
Cost: $35 AAWS members,  $40 non-members
Materials: Participants need to bring their own cameras
